[TV] What shall I do with my DVD’s?

This is the sort of crux of it. Do people actually still buy them?

Yes we do,wife still buys loads of dvds at charity shops . Mainly horror ,we've got hundreds of them . Not a genre I'm into but she watches them whilst I'm fishing during the winter months

Do they not have wifi and laptops? I've always thought I'd be alright in a home as long as I had the internet and a computer. If they don't even have that they may as well be in prison.

Most laptops and computers no longer have the drives installed in them to play DVD’s/CDs.

Keeping them with nothing to play them on is pointless. If any of them have films you really wanted to keep, you could look for companies that specialise in transferring CD/DVD content to digital. If you aren’t bothered about the films, then I would just either try to sell them on a site like Music Magpie or chuck them away.

When I moved house, I put boxes of CDs and DVDs in boxes at the front of the house with a sign for people to help themselves. Ended up being a brilliant chance to chat with neighbours and random folk about music and films. Then, whatever was left went to the charity shop or tip.

We got rid of ours through freecycle- to someone who was so grateful to have them and would have got good use.

Lol I wasn’t really bothered about the actual DVDs more about the horrific thought that there’s human beings in this world being forced to watch daytime TV with no other outlets.

I don't think many of the residents in care homes are overly tech-orientated tbh. If there's a TV in the corner, its just easier for them or one of the staff to bung a DVD in the player for them, I'd have thought.

I put all my DVDs into one of those big disc wallet things. I still own the physical media and they don't take up an entire bookshelf anymore.

Plus, with streaming services putting up prices more and more you might find yourself watching those physical copies again in the future.

I still watch DVDs sometimes and have a player plugged in . Sometimes I fancy a film I haven’t seen for ages. Streaming is ok for when it works for you but I refuse to pay again for a film once I have subscribed… so why are the ones that I want usually available to rent extra ?
The wife has loads she no longer wants and we have realised that there is no market to sell them . The care home idea sounds good. If I end up in one I have there are some decent ones there.
Someone said they’d want their laptop in a home…. the question is, will you still have the brains to work it?.?

I still struggle with the fact that CD's and DVD's are no longer in vogue. I just can't fully come to terms with that.

It happened with vinyl, which has bounced back - I buy vinyl now on bandcamp with free digital download and love it. Can't see CD's making a return though. Seems such a waste to get rid , I've stuck mine on a hard drive but still can't bring myself to ditch them.

There is no way that I'd ever go back to cassette tapes, they've always been shit. Always went screwy, sat ontop of a speaker or getting mangled, they just never lasted

I kept any Disney, for the grandkids, and then put the rest on Freecycle. Same with CDs, the Playstation and Wii with games. Feels good to de-clutter.

Disgusted that so many comments are "bin them". Charity shops do take them so anyone saying they don't is frankly wrong (and an idiot imo). There may be some that don't take them but this isn't the majority. Just make a f***ing effort! Lazy barstewards. I'm glad (for the planet) we're moving away from physical copies but there is plenty of opportunity still for someone to reuse and enjoy them.

With Christmas coming up I think you should do a Blue Peter style craft project with string and sticky backed plastic to make a wonderful addition for any home.
