I think it's near Horsted Keynes. There was another pub in the dip that had Theakstons Old Peculier, first time i fell in love with it!, called the Kingfisher or Parrot. There was a story, about the pub shown, that someone got annoyed / barred and went back at night and painted the windows black so the landlord was confused then angry the next morning. Or it could be somewhere else!

Having thought about this and wasting my precious time! The pub in the dip had a parrot and wasn't called the Parrot! Does the Op know the answer and/or will "his friend" know the pub by the measly descriptions? Love the MG.

If you mean the Hatch in Coleman’s Hatch then it’s nothing like the original picture. It had tiny windows at the front which used to let sod all light into the pub, or at least it used to when I lived in Hartfield.

No. And nobody on Facebook has been able to tell him either. He wants to reproduce the picture for a gift. He’ll be pleased about the response on here though.

Not much to go on ! It looks a bit like the one that has now been turned into a Co-op on the Old Shoreham Road opposite the Jaguar dealership.

my initial thought was the Duke of York at Albourne too. but thats too big. it does look familar for a pub in village/small town i cant recall thats further east than peoples guess so far.
