What moped did you own ?

Should be an accompanying thread asking how often you stayed on the damned thing as a 16/17 year old!!

I only came off once. Skidded over on a slick of oil when turning into a petrol station, so thankfully not going too fast. Nasty grazes and a burn from the exhaust falling on my leg.

Happy days. Learnt to drive eventually, but for ages when driving I would lean when turning left or right. :lolol:

Good thread. When I was a teen I had a Suzuki TS125 which was converted to an off-road scrambler. When I got to 16 I had a Yamaha DT50 and then when I got to 17 I had a Kawazaki AE80. Like you these bikes looked much much bigger than they were.....but only reached 35mph on a good day.

that would have been down a steep hill with the wind behind you:D

Way back when i owned a Suzuki AP50 which was a rival to the Fizzy and the Honda SS50, has anybody on here owned a moped and if so which one !

Moped/scooter came late. Started on a Honda CM125, then a Gixer 750, oooer. But couple of years back I was zipping around town on a Gilera Runner 125, great fun and quicker than a 'Blade around Brighton.

Yay, Bike talk (but no 50cc i'm afraid)

Never had a 'Ped, back in '86 went straight onto old CB125 Twin - knackered 6v electrics, but when it went, all 16hp of it shocked a few 2 strokes.

After a while, wanted to look a bit 'cooler' and bought a RG125 Gamma from Steyning M/c's and bored it out to 140 Stage 2.

Many accidents, and a brand new KMX200 (that got knicked with 350 miles on it  ) later, i gave up for about 10 years - The doctors said " 1st time you come in here, it's usually a broken leg; 2nd time it's to remove a limb, and the 3rd time you go straight in there (pointing to the Mortuary.. :( )

Eventually got a CBX550 to get back in the groove, and have owned a YZF1000R for past 9 years (and does 500 miles a year..)

Just love Motorbikes..

Had a Kawasaki AR50 on my sixteenth birthday - I paid for it by doing 2 paper-rounds and working every staurday in the local greengrocers for 2 years as my parents made the mistake of telling me when I was 14 that I could only have one if I paid for it thinking I'd never raise the £600 needed!

As a 16/17 year old venturing into the <expensive> world of Bikes, wasn't that THE best shop ever.. ?

I never had a moped but my mum had a Raleigh I think it was that I used to ride. IUt ewas like abike witha very small engine and you had to peddle like f..k to get it to start and then it went at about 25mph maximum. I had a Triumph Tiger Cub motor bike that I bought from Triad Engineering behind the market in London Road in about 1961.

Quite a change..!

I borrowed a CM125 once, gutless f**ker...!

Coming back from Lancing to Brighton on old A27 (now A270?) and had a car do a U-Turn in front of me :ohmy:
Ended up in the middle of the two lanes on opposite side of road, and crawled to the pavement...crapping myself..
The bike was toast of course..

My son has a derbi boulevard 50 cc best thing we ever bought him - he goes to college on it and out and about with his mates all the time - he's been ok on it - had it for over a year now and just about to book him up some driving lessons in the next week or so - he will keep the bike though as its cheap to get around on - and he parks at the Amex on match days easily xxx

If he goes to Uni he will take it wherever he goes I guess.

Had the same bike , same colour, in the same year .
Collectors items now I believe .

Big time! Up to 2k for a wreck you can then restore. Restoration of 79/80/90's bikes is big time at the moment.

MB-5 - Purchased from Steyning Motorcycles and then ported and fitted with Boysen Racing Reeds, an SP Filter and Micron
AP-50 - had a Jamma exhaust and used to pull 60mph two-up!
DT 50 - Untouched....and a lot more reliable
GP 100's - two of...passed test
GSXR 750M - Frighteningly quick. Sold eventually for furniture for my first flat. Shame!
