What might be the difficulties of someone claiming an old age pension ......

I don't think that you even have to give a UK address. Spain is within the EU. I know people who now live in France who have their pension paid into their bank accounts.

I live in Spain and am looking forward to getting a full state pension (albeit not for a few years yet) apparently you can still get your winter heating allowance as well.
I dont think having an address in UK makes any odds, as Yorkie said if you move to an EC country it all works the same

Concur with what others have already indicated, ie - claiming a UK pension whilst living abroad (certainly within the EU/EEA) isn't a problem and you certainly don't need a UK address.
My wife's sister and her husband have lived in Spain for nearly 3 years now and have it paid directly into their bank accounts.

I work in a pensions dept, and we have pensioners all over the world. Most of those based overseas, get their money paid direct into their account (via TAPS or CHAPS).

Some request to receive bankers drafts or cheques, but that means they pay a small commission fee to change.

You should be able to get it wherever you live; the problem comes with receiving an increase - and these do happen every year. Only certain countries have signed up to the policy that allows the increase in state pension to be paid to people who live overseas. If you live in a country that hasn't signed up you get the pension at the rate it was when you moved & then don't get any increase.

In Spain you get the increase AND the winter fuel allowance as well. I think it's only a few countries (South Africa?) where you don't get the increase these days

Not sure that applies any more - it is really difficult these days (as in they make you jump throug hoops) to get your pension paid by any means other than direct into your account.

An old lady that I help was reduced to tears by what can only be described as bullying to get her to change her payment method - I know its money saving but goovernment departments should be ashamed at their own insensitivity

Which is what worries me, my current plan is to retire to South Africa, might have to do what some friends are planning to do and split my time between there and the UK...thus getting the best of both Worlds and not losing out on pension entitlement.
