I started my current job a few years ago as someone who could barely watch Casualty without feeling faint, yet now find myself dealing with the most unpleasant of injuries, manky houses, other people's bodily fluids, and several-week-old dead bodies without much of a glance.

What's the one thing that's made your toes curl, or you close your eyes and walk away in horror?

Or are you one of these dead hard people?

So what job do you do? Where?

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
Nothing makes me that squeamish. I have seen a few dead people.

Although that Fatima Whitbread photo you posted earlier, pushed me to my limits. :lolol:

There was a chap at my school who used to faint at the word blood. It was good fun making him pass out :smokin:

I actually saw a dead man in the road outside Kings Cross Thameslink with an ankle half hanging off and it was not nice.

The aftermath of a cyclist jumping the lights and hit by a bus.

I trod on a mouse once, and still occasionally hear that half-squelch, half-crunch in my nightmares. :nono:

Any time I see someone being fitted with a chest drain on Casualty/Holby City, usually to treat a pneumo/haemothorax.

Maybe I'm just more conscious of them since I had it myself, but it seems like someone gets one almost every flipping week, and knowing exactly what it entails and how much it hurts does bring back some less than nice memories.

Oi.

You're nicked son.

I could deal with most things, and in an emergency with people lying all over the place I've had to give bystanding dozy twats the stern eye and order them to shake out of it.

On the other hand though, I almost ran over my own dog after tying him up somewhere and forgetting, then backing my car up. Only a VERY coincidental person saw me and shouted before I did it.
If that had happened to play out, I'd never have forgiven myself - it might have been depression and lowered self-esteem for the rest of my life - there'd have been no way to handle it.

My cousin is one of them...he's very nice..are you?

I am very nice (unless you act like a twat or attempt to punch me) :lolol:

I raise this squeamishness issue having fairly recently dealt with the dead-est individual I've ever seen...I'm talking in terms of timescale here, the poor guy.

I like to think I can cope with most things now but...the smell...

Went right through me.

How long dead was he?

We've been told not to go and see a post mortem - because the smell is horrendous!

A couple of months they reckoned :(

As for post mortems, well the smell would depend on how long someone's been dead. Mortuaries as a whole just smell musty more than anything else. Not that you'd want to breathe that in particularly, but there are worse smells.

The vast majority of dead people  I've seen have expired shortly before we arrive, and don't smell that much.

It's just the odd one or two that slip away quietly without anyone noticing for ages. They're the ones who, sadly, nobody notices until the neighbours complain about the smell, or the flies.

THAT's the smell that goes right through you and gets into your nose, not to mention your clothes, hair and skin

Sad old way to leave this earth :nono:
