Our current position (8th) feels about right, plus we have a game in hand over some rivals. I would to say that we deserve to be higher but honestly we aren't quite there yet.
We are just not consistent enough to be top 6. The table doesn't lie. We will do well to finish 6th or 7th. That would be reasonable progress over last season but with obvious room for improivement.

We need to be more clinical and bully sides more than we get bullied ourselves. We have a very decent squad with strength in most areas however as the quality of player improves it highlights the remaining deficiencies. We still have 3 or 4 players who are decent Lge 1 / mid Championship standard, but are not top 6 material. Only Bridders from our League 1 winning squad is indispensable. Probably only Bruno would be good enough for our back four and even he had some wobbly games. Bridge is a loanee so not 'ours'.

Our midfield is talented but a bit lightweight physically. Teams know they can put us off our game if they get in our faces. We have too many Hammond/Crofts/Dicker types and could do with an big enforcer to grip midfield by the scruff of the neck. I also think we need to strengthen the quality of CBs who are vulnerable to pace and don't dominate in the air as much as they need to.

It's not only about the players. Gus has played a tad too conservatively and by his admission also made the odd error in team selections. Earlier in the season we struggled against the top 6 clubs. The forthcoming games against several play off rivals will be an indicator of whether we are making good progress. Realistically I suspect that we will be in the Championship next season but hopefully this time next year we will be consistently in the top 3 or 4.
