I'm somewhere between touch typing and having to look at the keys. Find touch typing easier on a slanted keyboard with a desk top rather than a flat laptop keyboard, where I have to look at what I'm doing.

... would say more of a 'hunt and peck' keyboard user and don't get me started on phones ... usually get my daughters to type the message and I just send it ;o)

Touch type - I did a typing evening class many years ago as I had a mad (not followed through) idea of being a journalist. Best £120 I have ever spent and have found it a very useful skill to have. I am encouraging the young Pottings to learn properly, we have a CD course somewhere - Mavis Beacon I believe, great name!

I thought I'd type all this out to see where I fall, and it turns out that I'm somewhere between touch type and the use more than two fingers options, but definitely nearer the touch type option even though I voted for the other option on the poll.

Proper touch typists don't need to look but I do have to glance at the keyboard probably every 7 or 8 words. Also my right hand DANCES all over the right of the keyboard like a proper touch typist whereas my left hand relies more or less on my index finger locating the key.

Touch typing is a useful thing to have in your arsenal and still too much thought of as linked to women/secretarial and all that antiquated Richard Keys/Andy Gray style sexist crap. Would put myself at about 80wpm.

I touch type at around 50 words per minute but only use two fingers, where does that put me?

Not saying you're lying, but I find it hard to believe you can have the motor memory in just two fingers to type this fast. Fair play if you do though - just think how quick you could go if you used all your fingers and thumbs!
