Sorry 8Ace, but I voted for Brighton, and not just to bump it up a bit as it was in danger of being beaten by "other". They are, of course, all special in their own way, and Goodwood in particular has one of the most spectacular settings for any racecourse in the world. And yes, Brighton's racing is generally low-grade stuff contested by rogues and no-hopers. But on a still, late spring evening, with the sun beginning to set, the sea calm and shining, and the great city of Brighton spread out below in the golden twilight, there is no other racecourse on earth where I'd rather be.
Well, except for Santa Anita, anyway.

Brighton for the whelks and the fact that you can pub crawl down the hill into town with your winnings

As a predominantly flat racing enthusiast Goodwood should be miles ahead due to the quality of the racing. However, how many "unlucky" losers have you backed at the Glorious meeting when they are stopped in their run or hemmed in on the far rail... It's not a level playing field for punters imo, rather like Epsom. Brighton throws up some decent in running angles, especially when they come stands side, but it's another nightmare track for getting penned on that far rail! I'd probably vote Goodwood narrowly over Fontwell, which although jumps is not my preference, is a nice "day out" venue. Shame Southwell isn't down here.....

I'm a big Southwell fan too, it will be a very sad day if they ever get rid of the Fibresand. Was going through yesterday's replays a little while ago, thought Takajan got an eye-catching ride to say the least. He's entered in the 6f race there next Tuesday, will be very interesting especially if he's dropped a pound or two.

I'll let you off voting for Brighton if this goes in :)

saaf of the water
When my father retired, he spent the first two years of his retirement visiting every Racecourse in England, Scotland and Wales.

He 'rated' them all, from the entry cost, what the view from the Grandstands was like, access to course/bookies, parking, down to whether they served their beer in proper glass or plastic!

I seem to remember he voted Wolverhampton as the worst - I'll have to dig out his 'book' which he kept, to see which he voted as his particular favourite, I think it was one of the smaller West Country ones.

Brighton
I'd like to tick off a few more racecourses, went to Sandown a couple of weeks ago - that's a nice track. Next one will hopefully be Kempton on 27th December. Not sure if I could ever drag myself to Leicester or Folkstone though.
