Civilian: Airbus A380. I've done very little long haul travel, but in 2009 I went to Australia with my brother to celebrate my 40th birthday. I flew on Singapore Airlines, treating myself to the upper deck as it was a special trip. I was astonished by the sheer size of the thing, and when we took off, you hardly noticed you were at an angle at all, much more so than even the 747.

Military: Vulcan. It's an absolute beauty. I got a particular thrill having one come over me at the Biggin Hill Air Show. The design is a classic, hardly matched in my view. Coming back from an Albion away game somewhere up north on the Costa Express, we had the privilege of seeing XH558 climb out of RAF Finningley - a lovely sight.

Modern aircraft-wise, I quite like the Typhoon.

I also think the Gloster Meteor was a fine design. Very simple, clean lines, and of course our first military jet. By the way, does anyone know what the aircraft is (presumably it's a model) by the road across Shoreham Airport where you turn to go under the railway bridge? I've often wanted to stop and see, but the road is very narrow there, and one normally has following traffic.

It was a Jaguar, now gone who knows where.

I love Spitfires, Mosquitoes and Lancasters. Thanks to Mrs Jakarta getting a flight in the former in 2020.

I went to the Bournemouth airshow this summer (saw 2 days worth), and I was lucky enough to see the first ever airshow debut of THIS

AIRPOWER16_-_Air_to_Air_SK35C_Draken_%28color%29.jpg

The Saab Draken. It literally looks like something out of Battlestar Galactica. Some may recall it from the old 80's SAAB adverts, when they flew it over one of their boxy cars. It was retired from the Swedish military some time in the 90s, but like I say, this summer gone was the first ever airshow appearance, and it was SENSATIONAL. On our second day they put it up there with a Typhoon Eurofighter, what a bloody treat. The speed and noise was absolutely mindblowing, you could literally feel your own ribcage vibrating.

The Typhoon was my fave, until I clocked that little swedish slut.
At the risk of being a pedant, it was nowhere near its first airshow appearance. The Swedish Historic Flight have been going for a few years now, there are vids on YouTube of the Draken at Waddington in 2014, for example:

Superb aircraft though, without a doubt.

It may well have been the Draken's first appearance at Bournemouth, so perhaps that's what he was trying to say.

Did you manage to grab a photo?

Indeed I did, because I thought "in 3 months time I will need to prove to an anonymous stranger on the internet that I was listening to a tannoy system at an airshow".

But later that night I started questioning my life choices, and ended up deleting it. Sorry.

Aah well, these things happen. You keep up taking photos of PA system speakers.

Had a interest/hobby in WW1 aircraft as a kid.

Of the 20 odd types of Sopwith the swordfish was my favourite..
