Sprouts and broad beans.

My least favourite followed by my favourite there. Although raw corn on the cob picked straight from the plant takes some beating !

I feel I can speak on some authority on this subject..... It all comes down to whats in season really.

The first proper new potatoes are gorgeous as are the maincrop's when they are ready to roast.

The first golf ball size Beetroot of the season are a delight too. As are the first Runner Beans of the season. Sweetcorn picked and cooked within an hour is lovely too !

Too much more to choose from..

White asparagus in salads, Mange tout (sp?), boiled celery, carrots in butter and a pinch of sugar and fresh new potatoes all do it for me

Oh and if in France around March, April and if I'm feeling flush..the French do things with truffles that defies belief, as do the prices they charge.

Sullington
A baking tray full of sliced courgette and aubergine with a few garlic cloves, drizzled with olive oil and slowly roasted until all have softened and slightly caramelised - tip top as a winter veggie side dish but also go nicely on the barbie in summer I find......

Technically neither of them are vegetables! (and actually I'm not sure mushrooms are either)

Mushrroom is a fungus and potato is a tubar BUT Vegetable is a CULINARY term so technically he was correct.

Thats why tomatos is a fruit(berry) and a vegatable.:)

Too hard to choose, they all have their merits...though I can't abide cooked swede (but love it raw) and loathe celery with a passion...favourites, freshly shucked peas, broad beans (trying to grow them for the first time this year), courgettes...in fact pretty much anything either raw or cooked to perfection...with dougdeep on the parsnips, best roasted with a spoonfull of honey drizzled over them...perfect!

...on the subject of asparagus, has anyone noticed that it makes your pee smell...or is it just me who it affects?
