Spoilt for choice - but for me the Constant Service just edges it over the Dover Castle. For some reason this thread is making me very homesick !

Bath, Somerset.
Long time since I lived in Brighton, sadly, but used to enjoy a pint in The London Unity many, many years ago.

And The Greys is run by a guy I went to school and Sixth Form with (in Lancing).

I know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but that photo of The Reservoir doesn't do it any favours !

I'm gonna go with The Greys but only out of loyalty (worked there years back under Mike Lance, met Kiki Dee and Chip Taylor and loads more when they did proper gigs). Recently I've very much enjoyed the Napier. Shout out to the Dover Castle though.

Basically, most of the pubs up that way are fuggin excellent.

Indeed.

A while since I was a regular at the No Name, but it had lost its sparkle by the time we moved anyway.

My favourites would be the Greys and Constant Service, with the Napier and Dover Castle close behind.

God I miss Hanover (and the high disposable income we had when we lived there!).

Still not eaten there. I'm led to believe it's good food.

Correct me if I'm wrong but was there an award-winning chef in there who gained a Michelin star, but died recently? Could have my stories utterly mixed up...

you're right...........the food is still great though

chris who runs it goes to albion games as well...he's a top bloke actually (and his wife is very friendly as well....sadly i've forgotten her name)

oh- and obviously they have the belgian beers as well....top pub

No, Spats never had a Michelin star. He held the Matrise Escoffier though and was a f***ing ridiculous chef. He once recreated the menu for the last meal served on the Titanic, all ten courses. In a kitchen above a pub. A real character.

The current chef, Roz, moved there from Due South and is very good indeed.

It's because they changed it from being a fairly modern pub back into an oldy worldy one, as is the fashion at the moment. But I always thought it was one pub where modern worked quite well.

What other pubs in Brighton have done this recently? Certainly the following:

The Hampton
The George
The Wick Inn (yes, I know that's in Hove)

Sure there are others.
