What is the best pet ?

No point in doing a poll as there so many different pets out there. Right now of all things I'm Horse Sitting, yes I am watching a horse. He's a young gelding who is on his own for a few days and horses are pretty neurotic and high maintenance and are not happy alone. Much as like looking at them I wouldn't want one as a pet, my choice would be a dog, what's yours ?

Before this year, I would have said dogs for me, as I grew up with loads of them . But not being practical with working etc. in Jan I got 2 young cats, brothers, and they are fantastic. Would still like a dog if I was going to be around at home during the day though.

They eat grass 99% of the time, roll around for 0.5% of the time and let out massive noises about 0.5% of the time that sound like "AAAARRRGGGHH HELP im a horse!"

One horse on his own doesn't, this one is not happy hence why I am watching him. He likes me or the dog to be there so he is not alone however dog follows me. Right now he's quiet as the cat (of all things) is with him. Granted an older horse maybe but this is a three year old.

Anyway, that's not really the point and come to think of it I'm not sure if a horse can be classed as a pet anyway.

I've always had the dream of keeping a little old lady, the noise of her hoarsely purr, always possibly her last, soothing me in a sleepless night. Apparently, when they bite, the only where to break their locked jaw is the same as you used on a rottweiler. But with the dog you only use one finger or thumb.

We have 3 German Shorthaired Pointers which take up most of my time outside of work.
I'd quite like a horse, but they are expensive and I think I'd need a bloody carthorse to get me around!

We have both a cat and a dog. The cat I love sitting on my lap purring contendly of an evening, the dog I love walking and chasing and playing with in the park at weekends. Best of both.

We also have chickens now, they are very low maintenance with the bonus of eggs as well. They're pretty tame and quite like being stoked. Not a bad choice.
