A few turgid games is fine but it would mean a complete change of tactics, tall order no?

Exactly that. But as I said completely hypothetical of course.

Let me rephrase the question you can have it exactly as it is now OR 9 points better off under Hughton and the football that comes with him?

Am sure when we came out of lockdown and did so well Potter reverted to a much more defensive game.

Are we sacking CH again after the 9 points and re instating Potter? :lolol:

If so, although I feel a bit dirty saying it...but it’s a YES

Havent read all responses, but assume mine will be similar to some if not many. Ultimately I will support and have done despite the various standards/quality being dished up. I get passionate at either end of the table, can celebrate a horrible 1-0 win which is critical to stay up, as much as 3-0 masterclass that keeps us top or gets us in the play-offs.. The quality of football is important t me, but it doesn't dictate my support for the team or the Club - but then neither do results. I think we have been positively spoilt in recent years (Gus onwards really) on this front, with successive managers and largely have had unprecedented success as well.. So my answer is "it doesn't matter" . Winning with style is more fun than losing with style. Winning with no style is perfectly acceptable if the situation dictates it, Losing with style is fine for me if there is realistic chances of winning and losing with no style is the worst of the lot. If this as I suspect becomes GP or not GP then I am happy with what we are trying to do and we have opportunities to change our fortunes with this style. I will be supportive also if our position/games left mean a move towards a more defensive style so as not to lose games.

Being entertained. I'm a football purist/snob.

I love watching attractive, innovative football. I would rather go down playing the way we do nowadays than stay up as we did under Hughton. And I love being in the Premier League but would still take that.

For me the greatest managers of all time are Michels, Sachi, Cruyff and Guardiola rather than necessarily the managers who have won the most as they pretty much invented new ways of playing the game in an exciting way and took it to another level.

Totally wrong.
I was describing passages of our play, at times, as tedious, when played at too slow a tempo, in front of a massed defence, with no hope of breaking it down. You, clearly don't see this and must imagine that we play at the same tempo all the time. We don't. When we quicken we are a lot more effective but we play too slowly, too often. We have to aspire to pace and accuracy, like all the better teams.
Try reading a bit more carefully what someone is saying, before jumping down their throat.
Dress it up how you like. Like so many others on here you're choosing to be negative when there just isn't any point to it.

Everyone from the tea lady to the Chairman knows full well that we want to play with more pace and accuracy more of the time.

This is a bit of a fishing thread isn't it.

I like to be entertained. I don't find a long succession of poor results entertaining.

Right now, to be entertained as f all else is going on to entertain me. Once the world is back to normal and we go on away days, I couldn't really care less.

Most important thing is the existence of Brighton and Hove Albion FC. Personally, I don’t particularly worry about the division they are in. I have had some great times with them outside of the top division.

Indeed, it is basically asking Potter IN or Potter OUT and implicitly claiming that the former is the entertainment option

No it’s not, it’s just your twisted logic. You COULD claim that on options one or two but no way can you make options three and four Potter in or out, however anti Potter you are

I’m not ‘anti Potter.’ Its so odd that the debate is framed in this way. I think if you step back from the rather binary language you will see that it has been reduced to Potter IN= entertainment, Potter OUT=call for Fat Sam.
My take is more nuanced. I want him to succeed but see some pretty big failings in the set up. I honestly think that is where the majority find themselves away from hostilities on NSC.

The biggest nuance is that you seem to think that Potter is the only one who could bring entertainment when so many are not entertained by his football at all

I did make the point that this was not about Potter in my original post too. I was deliberately trying to avoid that take.

Would be a disaster VAR replaced by shit refs so no change there. Nearly every club is up North and getting out of the division is bloody hard. You would have to mad to actively want it.

Playing well and losing narrowly to City on a Wednesday evening or losing to Rotherham away ???

I was entertained by the football at the beginning of last season and this one. Similar with the last couple of matches. It seems to hinge on tempo and willingness to make positive passes. Potter’s tenure has been superior in this respect to that of Hughton because no longer are we aiming for 1-0 victories and minimal possession. I want to be entertained but not at the price of virtually never winning. Impossible for me to vote in the poll because the actual nuance is finding the balance between the two. Hopefully GP is up to the job.

True, I should have made it multiple choice but it’s hard to do a poll on such an emotional subject when there are so many potential options.
