We'd rather look after people abroad than people struggling here....That's the way this country works!!

I'm in no doubt people like your good self are always on the look out for those less fortunate.

The right to accommodation should be a fundamental human right, up with the likes of food, safe drinking water and sanitation facilities. The government needs to get its own house in order with these basic domestic issues, instead of prioritising superfast broadband and other gimmicks.

The right to shelter comes in to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

If we had the political will to, we could afford to do both.

Would it be appropriate to add "education" and "the will to work" on to that list too?

I know lets give them all bikes and point them to tebbit I'm sure his dad gave him some tips as to where to find decent work

Interesting article I read a few days ago about the Working Homeless... There are many people apparently working but unable to afford rent or a mortgage. As Poundland Thatcher says " There is a perception that capitalism isn't working for everyone......"

...''the general public are abusing and attacking the homeless". im only pointing out that where they do thats likely a tiny minority of incidents....

Not a tiny minority but approx 30% if I recall stats I read a year or two ago correctly.

I would get a job if I was living on the streets. Then I wouldn't have too.

Perhaps it's easier said than done if a certain cycle is gotten into, that said since the age of 14 i have (with the exception of 2 spells of 6 months)worked be it full or part time,my 18 year old daughter already works drives and well i thank my mother, she would ensure i would work my arse off to do whatever it took, swallow some pride and take whatever comes to keep climbing.

That said it's a concept, the reality may be harder, but i personally would be prepared to die before i gave up.

Have you ever seen the film A Clockwork Orange; a satire, sure, but it gives some insight into the mentality that regards 'picking on' vagrants as sport.
Of course you are not seriously using a 45 year old film as a model for misbehaviour in 2016?.... try something more relevant please.

It's very relevant. At the risk of putting words in his mouth, HWT isn't saying that the film was an inspiration but rather the opposite: that there is a mentality that certain people have that regard the homeless, mentally ill and suchlike as somehow less human and fair game for abusing, and the book expresses that. See also American Psycho, Dirty Weekend et al.

I saw a homeless lady in WH Smith yesterday, with a tatty old trolley of sorts, filled with disintegrating plastic bags. She was queuing up at the Post Office bit. I was feeling bit sorry for her - what kind of life must she have? Then some other woman queuing in front of me reported her to a member of staff for "smelling horrible". Happy Xmas. Staff member, to his credit, did nothing about it.

There was a famous case some years ago of a "bag lady" who roamed about Brighton. When she died, it was discovered that she was in fact extremely well-off with property in her name. I know a man locally who looks like that with a collection of plastic bags he carries around. He runs a car and has his own house. He however suffers from OCD.

Once not so long ago I was returning from London late at night having drunk probably more than was good for me and ended up in a station waiting-room at Haywards Heath waiting for a connection to Lewes, when I was surrounded by 4 feral youths, who demanded that I give them a light. Fortunately a station porter (at that hour!) came in and told them to clear off. I'm eternally grateful to him, and worried that stations are becoming lawless places now.

I saw something recently about Debenhams security guard in Portsmouth pouring a bucket of water over a homeless man on Boxing Day morning who was sleeping in one of their fire exit. Soaking most of his food and dogs supplies, all of his clothing and bedding . Debenhams of course say this was an accident and water was poured out of this fire exit every morning.

What kind of horrible c*nts do we have in this world
