What is it with Mac owners?

Why do they have to announce to the world they own a mac, and keep going on about how macs never go wrong and don't get viruses blah blah blah

Why do they need to keep justifying this? Is it because deep down they are really not satisfied and feel as though have paid over the odds?

Oh no ! Don't start them off ! Try to remember that Macs are 'simple' 'nuff said ?

I was put off buying one because of how pretentious many mac owners are. However I did buy one and like it. However each to their own, I would never lecture someone on what to buy - just give impartial advice.

:lolol::lolol::lolol::lolol::lolol: you're having a laugh aren't you?

In the last two and a half years I've only worked in one site where the Macs numbered more than two (most had none). Even so, on this site the Macs were about a 40-60 split with the PCs. There were two Mac engineers and three PC Engineers (who also supported the Windows based servers).

However, I will not argue that for many years, especially for home use, the Mac was indeed totally superior to the PC. However, since about 2000 I would suggest that is no longer true. I grant you that my Vista has had a few teething problems but that is mainly because I upgraded my hardware (which needed doing anyway). If you buy a PC with Vista on it from somebody like Dell you're pretty unlikely to have problems.

They say that macs are top for design. However if you are designing a flyer on a mac for commercial printing, is this quality only as good as printing machine it comes out on?

Its not so much a quality issue-its the fact that there are more design packages for Mac and have been for longer. To be fair if you are a design studio you would be stupid to have a shit printer anyway.

The other thing that people forget is that Mac have about 4% of the worlds share of computing. Why would you bother trying to create virus to attack such a small sector. Also all the huge firms and corporations run almost entirely on PC. If you want to make a name for yourself and be a pain its much more likely to happen by bringing down a company full of PC's than Macs.

No they mean for ease of use not the actual printing and believe the one place you will see plenty of Macs is anywhere that needs design work. They were for many years light years ahead of the PC and probably still are. I can't honestly remember seeing anybody doing that sort of work using a PC.

I think your find the SUN have quite a large share of the mainframe market, their machines run Unix as do Macs

as for virus, I'm sure its not down to market share as to who designs what virus, its all down to OS design, Its a lot harder to write virus that installs onto Macs because of their Os design !!!

Whilst that may be true, if Mac had a 96% share of the computing market do you not think that people would attemtp to write viruses for them? The effort would be worthwhile due to the massive effects.

i have a powerbook, pretty old now (about 4 years) and it pisses all over any PC i have ever seen or used. yeah there are some things you can't get but the positives outweigh the negatives. i feel sorry for people sitting there waiting for their kapinsky updates every time they login.

its historic. once upon a time, design and graphic software was only available for Mac, or was shit on PC. this was partly due to a better windows interface (ie before win95) but also due to the way the older processor handled data meant they simply done graphics better. They where used in industry, so the design colleges used them to train designers, who then perpetuate their use. tbh, today it doesnt matter, all the software is available on Windows and with >1 mouse buttons as standard actually easier to use. But the establish practice of Mac persists mainly due to a sence of superiority, and they are physically built alot better than average PC with alot fewer bugs in the OS and s/w

The other thing that people forget is that Mac have about 4% of the worlds share of computing. Why would you bother trying to create virus to attack such a small sector.

this is just a myth: why create a virus at all, its just for giggles, "because you can" or kudos. if you want notoriety why not be unusual and do a virus on Mac, used by so many in media its get alot of attention relative to its impact. the fact is the code is better so the old MacOS was less prone to virus and the basic tenets of Unix/BSD do not facilitate virus in the newer MacOS. Windows gets so many cause its so damn easy.

A FEW!!!

AND HAD!!!

f*** me you don't half talk some shit!

:lolol::lolol::lolol:

No actually three and one was self inflicted. However I opted for the 64 bit version and I built my own PC because being an IT Professional I have to go for the most difficult option to get and much idea of what can go wrong, I certainly wouldn't recommend it if you don't need to.

Incidentally a relative of mine was thinking of getting a Mac after many years with a PC as her husband has one. She's now completely changed her mind and doesn't rate the Mac at all, even I was a bit surprised.

As for me talking shit you're the sort of Mac user this thread is aimed at.
