This is slightly straying from the question "What is Brighton most famous for?", but as people are mentioning day trippers, did anyone else hear the commentator against Chelsea say "The Brighton defence is proving just as hard to get through, as driving through the city its self". I thought, "Someone hasn't enjoyed their dayout in Brighton"
And I love the description of Brighton by Keith Waterhouse, he wrote a book about many of the large Towns in England (before we were a city), he said Brighton always reminded him of a town helping the police with their enquiries.
