What I would Do Next Year re Tickets

Assuming we stay in this division, next year we will again be drawn in the third round of the FA Cup.

What I would do, and announce it in the press is this:

For the five games before the FA Cup game, home and away, each supporter to be given a voucher, entitling them to "apply" for a ticket for the game. These vouchers will be given out when a ticket is printed. The games away will be regarded as all ticket and tickets will only be available through the ticket office ( ie no pay on the day)

When the draw is made, be it a home or away game, only people who have a voucher will be able to get 1 ONE TICKET. If you are a season ticket holder you will get a voucher anyway as part of your ST bundle.

There will be no freebies ( ie players comps or sponsors comps)

If we make it through to the next round, a voucher system based on the next games will be made and so on and so on.

This is what happens at the vast majority of clubs in the country.

The main problem is that as we can only get a small number of people in at the Theater of snooze, and there are a large number of "floating supporters" you will always have a problem with ticket allocation...I dread to think what will happen if we get a draw and Tottenham are invited to play us at our place......

MP made it very clear on SCR - STH would get two or three days to apply for their own seats - then the rest would go on general sale.

As a STH who hasn't got Spurs tickets I think this is all a big waste of time and money for the club - and I hope MP sticks to his guns and does the same again if we are lucky enough to get an attractive away fixture.

I'll try to be a bit quicker off the mark, especially as we have to rely on the post rather than handing in an application at the ticket office.

That is exactly what they did for Cup Final tix and it worked just fine.

It's a good idea, but you know that next year we'll draw Scunthorpe away and everyone will be clamouring to get one of the 2,000 allocation that we get and it just won't be enough :dunce:

Why is it a waste of time and money?

We have a situation where an employee of the club is verbally and physically threatened by "supporters" whilst she is doing her job. We have a phone in where the chief exec is forced to come on and justify the ticketing policy and if you remember at cardiff, people moaning like hell that they couldn't get tickets when there was spare places left!!!!!

If the club set our exactly what the critreria was in clear unambiguous language at the beginning of the season it would stop all this stone dead.

Sounds good, but a couple of points.....

1. Would it be 1 voucher per ticket or 1 person per ticket (ie no matter how many vouchers that person had)?

2. If 1 voucher then STH's will be able to apply for 2 or 3 tickets, depending on how many home games there were.

3. If 1 person then I can see some away tickets being applied-for in different names (although we'll get extra money for any new away members).

Whatever way it's organised there will always be loopholes that will get exploited. There will always be people able to get to the club's letterbox ahead of the rest, and there will always be people that think they have a god-given right to a ticket.

No I would go for 1 ticket per person irrespective.

I am not really a fan of the idea that you can get more than 1 ticket per application

Isn't that something like Palace did for tickets for Withdean the season before last ?

A good plan, Dave, apart from the fact that BHA can't compell teams we are visiting to make our allocation all ticket.

However, if it is known that you only get in the queue for the big games by buying in advance for others, whether you need to or not (e.g. Sheff Utd coming up), then nobody could have any arguments.

What I found irritating about Martin's defence yesterday was that he was defending the fact that people who happen to be members of the Away Members Scheme for historical reasons who have not been to a game since Cardiff, and before that maybe no games for 2 years, had the same priority as those who have not yet missed a game this season. He may not have said those words, but that is what he was saying. I totally disagree with him that this is in any way fair.

His assertion that 10 year season ticket holders were "just the same as a standard season ticket holder" also shows no grasp of reality. I don't fall into that category, but would happily stand aside and let them in first.

So, supposing there are 3 away matches in this 5 match spell, if I wanted to go to each of them I would apply for tickets in 3 different names (all at the same address). This would give me 3 vouchers, and therefore 3 cup tickets. It's quite possible that some of these are already away members but if not I'd enrol them. After all, if the club were going to use this system for some time it could be worthwhile.

To be honest if someone wanted to do that then there is very little to stop him/her doing that, and I would have hoped that this would not be representative of the standard Albion Fan. as you say there will always be anomilies, but comething has to be better than this - as pasty says

What I find baffling is the lack of a clear ticketing policy for these situations. I'm sure we used to have one - but the Club Charter just says that arragemnts will be announced around the time of the draw.

At the moment it just comes down to how efficient your postman is.

Dave, isn't this exactly what people have been doing? I don't mean inventing names but they've certainly been using old AMS membership details to get several tickets (and they've ensured that they do get the tickets by posting the applications themselves). I wonder how many of the people that were named in the applications will actually attend?

But it'll be the same whatever is done next time. There's nothing to stop STH's giving/selling their tickets to others if they're given priority. The point I was trying to make was that there's no foolproof way to ensure the 'right people' get the tickets. There will always be those that set out to beat the system - whatever it is.

However, there is one question that I would be interested in having an answer to: How many tickets went to people who had contributed to A&K that weren't STH's or AMs? This is one area that could have been open to abuse if people were claiming that the A&K donor was a different person to the STH/AM of the same name.

One club, and I cant remember which one it was, has a points system.

We could do the same give 1 pt for each game attended either at home or away propvided the tickets are purchased via Brighton Ticket Office. Tickets are available for every away game in advance and can be purchased from us.

Season ticket holders get their point automatically with their season ticket but the points total counted at the time of sale of the cup tickets. i.e now STH would have 15 points that is 14 home league games and 1 League Cup tie plus up to 14 points for the away games played i.e a maximum of 29 points.

A STH who has not been away would have 15 points an AMS member who has been to all away games plus a couple of home would have been to 16 games = 16 points takes priority on attendance overall.

Those 5400 with the top points get priority of tickets due to overall match attendance.

Very simple no problem.
