What has surprised me the most is Tony Bloom's lack of ambition. He seems quite content with spending season after season in the Championship with no great desire or ambition to get into the Premier league and I find that very surprising and disappointing. Hyppia has no target just a " get in the top 6 if you can but if you can't never mind " Crowds will soon drop and have already start to tail off. 2000 down this season already. That is fine but why build the best stadium and training facilities around with a seemingly total lack of ambition on the field ?

This is by far the most embarrassing post I have ever read on NSC.

The money spent on the stadium is no longer relevant. If you really want premiership football you have to spend LARGE on (the right) players. It would seem that Bloom is not prepared (or cannot afford) to do that.

I think by the end of last season the stadium, and all aspects of the stadium, were indeed 'Premier League Ready'. It's a very professional, well-run operation.

The American Express Elite Football Performance Centre completes the off-field setup by providing an on-going environment to nurture young players through the system.

Nothing has gone wrong on the infrastructure side. It's a fantastic setup and an enviable position to be in.

What counts now is how to make the next step up on the playing side. Even allowing for FFP, player recruitment still seems to be the poor relation in terms of the overall setup. It's not exactly an afterthought, but there's something of a feel of 'patch and make-do'. Might have got away with it in the past, but I'm not sure that approach will be enough to see us safely through the play-offs to the Premier League anytime soon. Think that's going to require a further serious injection of cash, like it or not.

This kind of sums up what is wrong with some fans attitudes and expectations with this club and with football in general.

They seem unhappy that, in the last 3 seasons we have finished in the lottery of the play-offs not once, but twice and still they think we are failing. Why, when competing with teams with Parachute payments (anyone care to list all the teams that got them last season and how much they recieved?) and with teams prepared to throw money at trying to get up (and still failing Forest, etc)) Anyone would think that this was an uncompetitive league and all you need to do was to spend a couple of quid to walk the division, guarenteed!.

Anyone would think that losing £8m and then £14m in our first couple of seasons, despite our crowd sizes, would indicate that we are prepared to spend to try to get promoted. Every Pound we lose is another pound a potential buyer would have to cover if they were to buy the club so if Bloom spent £100m this year, we still didn't go up and something happened to him and we lost him, where would we be? would future would the club have then?

The usual response is, use administration or it won't happen anyway, and if it did then someone would buy us anyway so they should spend, spend, spend because we deserve and demand success now! and who cares about the long term future of the club (just ask the Pompey fans) - What if the club failed, there was no buyer because of the debt level chasing a fantasy? would it make you happy because at least they tried, but i suspect, even then it would it annoy you as they didn't get the PL football you think you deserve and to hell with the rest.

I think as well as premier league ready we are premier league DESPERATE as we can not sustain the operation outside the money league???

Tony Bloom stands to lose a helluva lot more than the fans by not injecting cash into the playing side. I want a serious injection of cash on the playing side for Tony Bloom's sake, not for mine. Me and thee will both go and see the Albion no matter what level they're playing at. If we were in League Two it would on a personal/selfish level be quite pleasant to have the queues well thinned out for every damn thing. wouldn't make a blind bit of difference to the Match Day Experience. It's Tony Bloom that needs us to step up to the next level, not us.

Well we disagrees with you and he is the one who should know what he needs to do.

He has provided a budget which has beed good enough for us to be challenging for a play-off place for the last 2 seasons, so why do you think that if he doesn't spend a lot more on his player budget now without any guarentee of success, that we will end up in league 2?

We are competitive, in a competitive league and have a player budget which is normally around the middle of all the teams in the division so why do you think our future hinges completely on promotion at all costs and must happen straight away? This sounds like your own wishes / demands rather than anything Tony Bloom is deamnding / expecting.

Fans will still come (you said yourself you'd still watch us in the lower leagues) but if your challenging liek we have been (and hopefully will be a better watch because we are more attacking this season) why will people drift away that wouldn't have done so anyway?

I don't think its seen as a question of failing , more of a case of needing to push on to the next level. Its called progress and yes we have made fantastic progress over the last 5 years

Brighton Mod

Its All Too Beautiful
More money does not guarantee more success, even more money also does not guarantee success and loads of money cannot do this either. We have the much heralded academy and players coming through from the DS. Football finances are changing and the club clearly is still seeking to find a level to stay within FFP and break even/make a profit. My view is that the chairman and the executive have a long term plan and are more responsible than to bring in players on three/four year contracts who demand a higher wage, as stated before there is no correlation between wages and success at our level, I cite Burnley last year.
Many on here will talk about the DS and the youth but few feed this through to reality and playing for the first team. I personally feel that we have had a good squad for two years now and feel that the current squad which will be added to will be in contention for the coming year. All players are experienced at this level and even the younger ones have played in the championship. What I would like to see is a new mindset and direction from the manager/coach as I have been underwhelmed by both Poyet and OG in their style of play when I believe that the players we have had are capable of more. I'll stick with the Chairman and his judgements and do not want to see any high priced high waged players on the way down dropping off at the Amex for an easy meal ticket. NOTHING has gone wrong for me.

You can read anything you like into my words, don't sound like we're ever going to agree. Don't really give a shit which League we're in, like I say would make minimal difference to my personal Match Day Experience apart from the queues would be shorter. How long do you think Tony Bloom will be prepared to bankroll season-on-season losses however? The ground's near full every game, there's folk stuffing their faces to kingdom come, and still the losses persist. It's simple logic to review the wage structure for starters. If you can't afford to retain Glenn Murray or Ashley Barnes, how do you pay for their replacements? Doubt many people would disagree we had a weaker squad last season than the season before (and, OK, we made the play-offs both seasons but again doubt many people would disagree that we were completely outclassed in the play-offs last season). This season, for reasons not in the club's control, the preparation has been far from ideal, the squad is again weaker than in the previous season, and a play-off place looks a long way off. IMHO, like. as I say, the only realistic way of reaching the next level is through a further serious injection of cash. For Tony Bloom's sake, not ours. All we do is invest in a match ticket, TB is infinitely more due a return on his investment than we are.

If it wasn't for Tony Bloom, where would we be ?
I will answer that for you.
We are playing at one of the best stadiums in the country, and in front of 27,000 every week.
We have a brand spanking new £30 million academy.
Whereas without TB.
We would still be at Withdean , playing in front of sub 7k crowds, getting drenched whilst watching the likes of Fleetwood etc.
FFS, think before you post again you embarrassing ****.
