According to Tim Carder's book, we reached FIFTH after we beat Wolves on Sept 22, 1981 - though that was after only six games.

The next highest was SIXTH after the aforementioned Southampton game. Other than that, we hovered between SEVENTH and 13th for the rest of the season. We didn't go below NINTH until mid-March, and we ultimately finished 13th.

My favourite season in the top flight was the 2nd one when we won our last 4 and Michael Robinson was on fire charging around like a loose Rhino.

Seeing that table reminds me of the opening day of that season, when newly promoted Swansea City took on Leeds United at the Vetch Field.

And won 5-1.

Swansea finished the season in sixth place, but were relegated with us the following season. Leeds United, if I remember rightly, were relegated in 1981-82.
