What happened to crisps?

In retail the grab bags are actually under the category of 'sharing crisps'.

But we all know they are targeted at greedy people. Just another ruse by the marketing folk to normalise huge portions of food. It is hard to find normal size bags now.

Anyone else try those Limited Edition Vanilla Monster Munch? They were mental, but in a good way. I think they turned your tongue blue as well. Technology, eh?

Trans- form -a -snacks and Bobby's are the only ones I buy now as they are in normal sizes and cheap as a Gary Glitter tribute act, though Bobby's do have some big bags of wotsits and onion rings.

Bobby's used to do Salt and Vinegar SPIRALS, which were the absolute DON.

My local stocks these behind the bar. A very real and dangerous temptation after a few jars.

Steady on there turi.

I'll take a bag of Jalapeno crisps, with my pint, over any of your old skool 7 flavours, ANY day.

i'll be honest, there is absolutely no science behind this...i've had jalepeno crisps and they're great

i guess i'm basically talking about 'GIRL CRISPS'....or as nibble suggested 'dinner party crisps'

And why are grab bags called grab bags? They're just big bags so why doesn't it just say Big Bag of Crisps on the packet? I imagine if you're fat you might grab at these more than smaller packets? Is this the reason?

You're on the right lines. It's because on those bags the opening at the top is big enough so you can get your entire hand in and 'grab' a fistful, meaning you can shove more into your gob at once. Much quicker than picking them out with you fingers in ones and twos.

Back in the late seventies early eighties there were these things like really thin wheat crunchies, tubes of some description.

If anyone can remember what they were or even if you can get anything like them now I would be very happy.
Spicy Tomato Wheat Crunchies. Snack heaven. They were made by KP and you can still get them online:

They also did a barbeque flavour one.

Hither (sometimes Thither)
I'm off to Spain tomorrow morning. When there i'll expect the options of about 3 flavours up for grabs. Piddling. I might have a strong hunger for a Prawn Cocktail when i get back.

I go for wasabi peas given the option these days, see how many I can stand to have in my piehole in one go.

Get yourself to Lidl and stock up on Crappi Crocs peanut puffs. Superb.

Had some of these last week. Intensely dry. The girlfriend is a chorizoholic and she said they hadn't really found the right formula for the flavour of a greasy horse dong.

Brighton - In your face
It all started to go wrong when Walkers started messing around with the colours. Salt n Vinegar is blue, not green, that's cheese n onion. TWATS.

Sweet chilli is the best new flavour of the millenium though.
