[Albion] What do you think our style of football is?

Well, the idea seems to be quick attacking transitions but it kind of doesn't work when all of our attacking players want to dribble three opponents every time they have the ball. Welbeck aside, all our attacking players want the ball as much as possible and don't move enough when a team mate has it.
This seems to be our formation (though can change some players around) in most games:

Last season we were extremely vulnerable due to full backs playing like wingers without adequate cover behind. This season we have improved that part slightly, but instead moved away from a two pivote system to a one pivote system, making us extremely vulnerable to central runs.

Its... exciting. I guess. Right now I would be more excited watching us get eleven men behind the ball in a defensive shape, covering spaces and holes until we win the ball back. Just for ONE MINUTE to see if we're still able to regroup and hold a shape after years of being all over the place.

What would really be useful here would be to superimpose the Palace, Forest, Southampton, Ipswich and Wolves line ups, formations and tactics on to this diagram, and then show FH these five diagrams so we can talk him through the reasons he’s looking tactically inept at the moment.

Too many flicks, diving and trying to be too clever

Too many crosses into the box for our non existent big man to get on the end of when we get frustrated.

We often look like the team talk has been "Go on lads get out there and run about a bit"

To be fair to Fab, he at least managed to get a tune out of the players for the start of the second half which shows he managed to get his point across at half time. I just don't get why we made Palace look like Real Madrid in the 1st half. What were they doing all week?

It was perhaps an illusion but Palace playing fast one touch passing seemed to emphasise that we don’t, but slow it down and take another touch or two. But when we do move fast - Pedro’s flick for Mitoma in the first half - we look much more dangerous.

If we're losiing at half time Huerzeler will put a roclet up them, and we'll come out firing for 15 - 20 minutes.
Sometimes it's enough to win the game, often it's not.

We have a style?

The last few matches have felt like a style buffet.

It does feel as if Hürzeler is chopping and changing a lot. I’m wondering if he’s come in with two preferred styles of play (back 3 or high back 4) and the squad have turned round and gone “we hate both those ideas.”

We’re not equipped to play either well. We’d need to buy three centre backs to have the personnel for a regular back three, and the centre-backs we have don’t have the pace for a high line.

I just don’t get the impression our current squad is allowing Hürzeler to organize the team as he would like.

If I thought the manager was poor I’d suggest it was cheaper to replace the manager than a whole area of the team. However, given that there’s a risk of Dunk’s decline being permanent and not just form, plus Webster being unreliable and Lamptey being built for Subbuteo, there’s an argument we have to restructure defence regardless.

I’d also argue that we want players that prevent JPvH feeling he’s automatically “first defender on the team sheet.” It never hurts (in competitive sports) to feel that a drop in performance will see somebody else take their chance.

At present if we play a back three, that’s all our first team CB’s on the pitch.

Aggravated by injuries at the back and not having the defenders to play his preferred 3 at the back system. Trying to integrate so many new players at once has not helped especially as many have been injured.
He’s going to have to make very tough decisions and the January transfer window needs to address the need for better and more mobile defenders. Hope he gets the right support.
