for many of us, brighton & hove is home...........there must be things that you love about it (otherwise you wouldn't be here) but there must also be things that get right on your WICK!

and what about those who don't live in brighton & hove? what are YOUR likes and dislikes?

WELL?!

Apart from the tourists, something that keeps the town alive, I'd agree with this.

I'll add

LOVE

The South Downs (countryside on our doorstep)
North Laine (shopping area supreme)
The Regency squares and crescents
Brighton Station - what a fine construction it is
Volks Railway
Marrocco's ice cream
And obviously, the Albion and Sussex CCC

HATE

The way that the West Pier was neglected
The lack of an ice rink (42 years and counting)
Traffic congestion on summer weekends

LOVE:
The sea and the seafront.
County side is close by (not a huge fan of greenery but even I am bowled over by some of the South Down views).
Transient nature of the population.
The close proximity of all the stuff I enjoy (gigs, football, bars, clubs, restaurants) makes life very easy. I’m never more than 5 mins cab-ride from anything. Which ultimately means I can do a lot more. I’ve never done as many gigs as I have since being in Brighton.

HATE:
Our total inability to move forward quickly (or at all) with most things.
The city is totally anti-development which will could (IMHO) be our economic downfall. Name me a another city and I could tell you a few major new developments in the past decade. We’ve got bugger all.
The Regency Society.
It’s not a proper city.
Small and easy to exhaust your avenues of entertainment/socialising.

West St actually provides a valuable service in that it keeps all the oiks in one area. If you didnt have it they'd be all over the place.

How soon is now?
I'm liking Hove a lot more since I hit my 30's, but what it really needs are a couple of decent seafront pubs for those random summer days..

As for Brighton, I just try to avoid it if I can. You can't drive there anymore without sitting in some god awful traffic queue, and when you can drive in there's nowhere to bloody park(£6 I paid for 2 hours last weekend so I could enjoy a family lunch). And the last couple of times i've been out of a night, it seems like everybody wants to fight everybody else.
I'm sure thats not the case and there are some alright places to have a drink of an evening, in fact I know there are, but thats not what it should be about surely......

I dont agree with this, I go out in Brighton quite often and spend a fair amount of time on West St and I hardly ever see a fight. Yes it happens but I dont think its as bad as everyone makes out!

Anyway...

LOVE

HATE

All the tourists in the summer. (I know they bring loads of money into the city, but I still dont like them!)

Living in Brighton and moaning about tourists is a bit like complaining the sea is wet. We're a tourist resort and have been for well over a hundred years.
