Newcastle looked fantastic and, frustratingly, Lewis and Wilson look like exactly the two signings we needed to make to really push on this season. A draw would be an outstanding result imho.

I thought we did ok. If Maupay and Dunk could head a ball In the right direction we might have deservedly got something out of the game.
Injuries to Lallana and White are worrying. I have concerns re Connolly.
We need some more resources sooner rather than after we leave ourselves with too much to do.

I learnt that NSC will piss its collective pants as lost to Chelsea with a performance that will see us easily safe if repeated against the teams around us outside the top 10. But NSC only looks at the result and so we must be SHIT. ****ing embarrassing support sometimes.

I wouldn’t count on that

So, Chelsea (who spent about £200m) scored with :
A penalty from a stupid mistake.
A screamer from 25 yards or so.
A deflection.

And some sound like they are slashing their wrists. Jeez.

i was very impressed. Yes, we could really do with a decent striker, but our defence looks good.
Midfield also look very creative too.

Maybe I’m just more optimistic than some (or others can’t separate the frustration of defeat from being rational).

March's main problem is Lamptey on t'other side.

It seems somewhat unlikely the Albion can 'discover' a LWB that won't be overshadowed by our RLB.

I found Solly as entertaining as I did frustrating, so no great change there.
Would love to now see an identical performance v Newcastle.

A foothold to believe in.

I thought March was good tonight. He’s got good energy but can be frustrating with his final pass.

I thought March looked good too, played well. BUT still delivered next to nothing and achieved bugger all . . . . Harsh given it was against Chelsea, and I suppose Lamptey was no better In that respect ( bar being a decent defender as well and twice as fast) , but, Like Knockhaert 'looks good' doing it. Wing play is frustrating. With the occaisional gold plated money shot.

I've learnt I need to spend less time on NSC. Contributers now think we should be beating Chelsea and when we don't start ripping in to our players, management and owner. After 50 odd years of supporting US (only 7 of which have been in the top league) I am enjoying every minute of going toe to toe with billion pound Chelsea. I didn't expect to win tonight I just hoped we wouldn't be embarressed, which we certainly were not. God is this what the premiere leage millions have made us?

Disappointing turnout for first game of season. I know it was a Monday night and on telly but there were more people at the friendly FFS.

Probably need to look at ticket prices.

I didn't learn anything.

Need a striker? Knew that.
Lamptey good? Knew that.
Each of our players has a weakness that can be highlighted - crossing, decisions, execution, speed, strength, etc? Knew that.
Some fans can't handle other fans being anything less that 100% positive? Knew that
Some fans focus on the positives more? Knew that.
Some fans focus on the negatives more? Knew that.
Sky pundit bias/bad/big six-centric? Knew that.

Yeah, don't think I learned anything from this game.

I learnt that Alzate wasn't ready for the role he played tonight. A boy in a man's shirt. Gave away the first, failed to close down James for the second. Propper might have done the same, but I would have preferred him to Alzate tonight.

That we desperately need a striker and a left wing back as we already knew.

Maupay and Connolly were ineffective and although March did OK it doesn't fill me with confidence for the whole season. A Lamptey on the left and we are laughing.

Alzate made a big mistake but generally played well and Ryan cant be blamed fro any of the goals.

Lallana's infury is a concern though. If no Lallana are we back relying on Stephens? God forbid....

You didn’t ‘learn’ anything new re: the missing striker because it’s been known for past 2 seasons, even by that new life on Venus never mind anyone interested in football.

Perfect analysis. Nailed it.

1. Loved the formation
2. Seriously need to stop gifting goals to teams - we seem to do it more than any other team in the league
3. Look what happens when you shoot from outside the box - want to see more of it !

1. Steele looks to be our No.2 (and then No.3 when Walton returns.

2. Bernardo is surely going.

3. We need a new player with height, pace and power up front.

4. Solly won’t let us down but he is no Lamptey.

5. Webster still looks good despite his new position.

6. We must stop gifting teams goals - NOW!

7. We were never going to win this match, just one of those that everything the opposition hit at our goal somehow finds the net.

8. Defected shots are always a threat against us.

I learnt that Super Steve Earle is either an idiot or pretending to be one.

Bad mistake for the first goal but he was excellent thereafter. Really cannot be blamed for not closing down Reece James it was just a wonder strike.

He’s link up play and ability to twist and turn and make space was really exciting a bodes well for the future.

He needs a run in the team and I think he will get time under Potter.

No, just after four seasons I thought we might have beaten Chelsea once in 8 attempts. Or a thrilling draw. You know, like all the other minnow sides have done. Still we scored a goal. 3 less than (relegated) Bmuff managed against them in their (4-nil) win last season. But hey. You were saying?
