Did the Ben Myers lot last year. Found Cuddy hard work and haven’t finished it. Beastings is excellent, pretty full on though!
Yeah, Cuddy book was annoying at first, mainly due to the 'quirky' style of writing - sometimes just a couple of words on a page, or font getting smaller towards the bottom of the page. It got better as it got more up-to-date, but certainly not one of his better (or more accessible) books.

Around mid point of this book, simply one of my best reads ever.

Am absolutely loving this. Has anyone read any of her other books and would recommend?

Finished Pig Iron by Benjamin Myers last night. Bleak, harrowing, but beautifully-written. A brilliant/sickening twist near the end.

Main character - who possesses much more intelligence, decency and sensitivity than those around him (not difficult) - trying to escape his miserable childhood terrorised by an alcoholic and violent father, and life on a drug-fuelled, gang-ridden, sink estate - but keeps being dragged back.

Reminded me of Douglas Stuart's superb Shuggie Bain.

Not Dead Yet - Phil Collins

Excellent read. He doesn't come across very well in it, unless you appreciate that his music was simply more important to him than his wives, children and family.
