I envy you and intend to read the others as well. Wonderful writer.
If you like him a very good alternative is Patrick Leigh Fermor or Colin Thubron.

Alternatively two heavy weights on travel writing, Paul Theroux or Bill Bryson

Someone reminded me the other day about LEFT FOOT FORWARD by Garry Nelson

So I bought a copy on ebay for a couple of quid and it really is excellent.

Different times of course, but the day to day life of a footballer driving everyday from Worthing to Eltham to go training, the uncertainty over his future, and all the other things that we in the stands rarely think about.
