A couple-three new translations of Iliad out -- still Richmond Latimore's for me.
As a lad I was planning to study biology in university, but had the unique opportunity to read the Odyssey, in Greek, entire, in my last year of high school.
Went into the year a biologist, came out a classicist. Never looked back.
I have maintained since then, that if I had been offered the chance to learn enough Greek to read Homer through, twice, at the cost of several hard years of study, and then had my knowledge of the language erased, I'd still have done the learning.
