Yes I agree. At first I thought it was a clever and original device to tell the story via intercepted emails etc but it sometimes felt like her actions were just to try and shock the reader and display toughness etc. Did you feel (Possible Spoiler) though that we are meant to think that she became a little under Bruno’s spell by the end. I wasn’t sure if the cynicism had declined by then?

I think he was one of the very few people (there were possibly two others) for whom she didn’t have at best a sneering contempt and at worst a psychopathic disregard. I suspect that her cynicism was the same as ever, though.

Golden Boy by Christian Ryan; the biography of Kim Hughes. It's described by Wisden as the best cricket book ever and sets out all the politics behind his stint as Aussie captain. Lillee, Marsh (R) and Chappell (G) aren't coming across particularly well. Great cricketers, deeply unpleasant people.
