it depends how you mean. i think our current team as it stands would finish half way in the championship . if you mean to challenge at the top then i would say in this order of importance.
a striker to compliment murray , someone fast , powerful and direct to work off murray

Why am I reading in various threads that people suddenly don't think Marcos Painter can play in the Championship? Why is he the latest target for the boo boys? :US:
Back to the question and we'll need a top Centre back (I don't think Elphick will get a contract and there's no point in bring in a player who isn't better that either GG or AEA).
A creative midfielder (again I expect that Gus won't give a deal to either Smith or Navarro, as he feels he can bring in better).
A couple of strikers, one a top striker for the Championship (Sandaza, Holroyd and Hart will be leaving and whether one of those strikers might be Wood remains to be seen).
LuaLua to complete on both wings.
A goalkeeper to add competition to Casper (I don't think Brezovan will get a new contract).
Finally, cover for our marauding full back/s.

I would agree with most of that but would suggest we could see another central defender brought in to put pressure on Greer and El Abd and also as covere as I agree about Elphick and Dunk isnt ready yet for an extended run, I dont think. Not so sure about Lua Lua as I think Noone will come to the fore next season

sounds a good shout and the maths agrees with Gus's which is always a good starting point.
if either fullback position has a priority it is probably at right back rather than left because for all his talents and what he brings to the team Calde is the less consistent and most vulnerable defensively.

I would like us to bring in somebody like Nathan Tyson from Forest alongside of Murray but it appears that he is going on a free, out of contract, to Derby.

Can't believe the amount of people on here who don't rate Painter. Have you actually seen him play? Before he joined us he was a regular in The Championship with Swansea before he got injured. And i'm sure he could still hold his own in the division again.

Absolutely, I dont understand people saying this either, there isnt a better left back in the division, if we have 5 or 6 players who i am comfortable with at a higher level Painter is one of them, he just dosent do bad games !

another striker....i dont think we could get away with the amount of chances we miss if we was in the championship, having said that i think the team now would be comfortabley mid table in the championship, the bottom half of the championship at the moment doesnt really have any teams in it that i would say are any better than we are now.

Missed the news about the strikers leaving. Where did you see this?
I don't think there's any one particular area. If we are to go onwards and upwards, yes, we will need better players - but a lot of that will depend on who's out there who is better than we've got, and is available - and if we can afford them and if they want to come to Brighton.
If we can afford one, a more clinical striker might be a good option; our's do seem not to convert as many of the chances as they should - that might make a crucial difference next year.......if we go up..................................
