With respect mate, it all depends on the what area you are in. This bar has obviously got the policy because they've had trouble in the past, i'm assuming they are near some sort of military base? As a DPS(publican)myself, the likelyhood of the boss being in the bar on a Monday(usually one of the quietest sessions a pub gets) is quite slim, possibly leaving a 'green' junior manager in charge at the time. In reality, this whole episode would of been over relatively quickly, meaning the staff had to make an immediate descision. Knowing the company policy, they would of followed it, so in short, they were just doing their job. Company policys in the licensed trade in this day and age have to be set in stone i'm afraid, as some (but not all) are enforced on you by local authorities, meaning that staff will know that a breach WILL usually mean a suspension for gross misconduct.
The owner has apologised, and i'm sure had he known of this funeral rehearsal, would of gladly looked after these guys, in fact, if it was me i would of gone out of my way to make them all as welcome as possible, but sadly, it seems this is a very nasty case of miscomminication, but surely not worth attempting to destroy a mans life and business by the power of Facebook? His apology has been accepted, and i think we should move on.
The licensed trade has changed beyond recongnition now guys, it forces DPS's to make unpopular descisions at times, because if something goes wrong the punishments are far more severe, this forces some to introduce what look like over the top measures, when i fact, they are merely protecting themselves. It's very sad...but very true i'm afraid.

Hold up a minute - the fact that he apologised and wasn't aware of the funeral is irrelavent. The lads are fighting for Queen and country and should be allowed in any pub at any time with uniforms on.

Like i said in my previous post mate...it depends on many, many factors these days. Also, there are some uniforms that you can't serve in a bar/pub...a police officer for instance...even serving a postal worker in uniform is frowned upon by the PO bosses, they both wear a uniform of the crown. The apology has been excepted by this brave mans widow....that should be enough for everyone, to continue crucifying the owner of this business is pointless. In the long run it will only affect his business, and therefore the people he employs and their families when he has to let them go...he made a mistake and will no doubt be paying a short term price as it is.
Trust me....losing even 10% of your trade in this industry over a short period of time can be fatal to a business right now. The main people to suffer will be his employees.

The landlord has obviously banned uniform for for a reason. Fighting for queen and country should not give them a carte blanche to do what they wish to do. So they are banned from a certain pub. Move on to the next and get on with things.

I think you miss the point. They are our armed forces that our government utilise to fight anywhere in the world as it suits them and its probably some fuckin nonsense about upsetting some minority that they are banned. I say bollocks lets have some pride back and be supportive !!!!!

Its nothing to do with 'some minority'... nice attempt at stirring racial and religious hatred.... there are many bars/pubs that ban military personel and have done since at least the 70s....
This was a MISUNDERSTANDING, and there was an APOLOGY.... ffs... Myself and oppo's were regularly barred from pubs and bars in uniform, due to problems with inter service rivalry, inter unit rivalry, and just plain drunken behaviour...the same way stag parties are often banned from bars/pubs... Is this bar the ONLY bar/pub in Coventry?

A. Aren't Royalists - so couldn't give a single flying f*** about the Queen

B. Don't agree with the war/that the soldiers are defending our country

C. Have had numerous problems with servicemen in their bars

Do f*** off , why cant he mention " some minority" it's cvnts like you that have stifled any meaningful debate about immigration by playing the race hate card at the first available opportunity, this was a group of squaddies OBVIOUSLY not out for a night on the piss and some discretion should have been used , the argument is not about any misunderstanding, although you are obviously trying to steer it that way , it's about a lack of respect for our armed forces in general, the likes of mellotron would like to believe that they CHOOSE where and when they serve , in fact he is probably the sort of person who will start moralising about the bomber command memorial, i can totally understand and agree with bans on squaddies in pubs in garrison towns, i have acted in a way myself that warrants barring , this, was OBVIOUSLY not one of those occasions .

Agree that some discretion should have been used but that will be down to the training of the staff. The landlord has apologised and accepted that they made a mistake in this instance. There is really nothing much more to add.
