Why do we not hear more about Simon Weston and all the great charity work he does?

He should be a national celebrity and surely made SIR Simon Weston.

Brave & lucky survivor of HMS Sheffield.

He beat alcoholism & severe depression aswell on his way back.

My Dad bought me his auto-biography last xmas for some reason ???

(Anyway, must dash. I've a bottle of vodka to down & 24 prozac pills to neck. *poor taste joke* )

Pedant alert

He was on HMS Sir Galahad.

I saw him at Buckingham Palace when my daughter got her Duke of Edinburgh gold award.

He is involved in a lot of different charities and youth organisations like the DofE.

Like most charity workers he tends to play down what he does.

I remember the documentary on tv showing him having medical treatment for the horrific burns he got in the attack. He really wanted to give up and die at one point.
Then he managed to find the strength to live but he had to have operation after operation.
His Mum was one of the ones who really inspired him (she's a nurse) and he finally stopped feeling sorry for himself.
He also had to fight the feeling of guilt that a lot of survivors feel.

A very brave man in many many ways and someone that I admire greatly.

Fair comment Gunter, but dare I ask what's brought this on? Bit random.

BIT RANDOM!!!! F. Me Safeway, what website are you confusing this with? Recent threads include Minnie Driver; my dog just bit me; little piggy's email troubles with his (ex) girlfriend; masturbation; fox hunting and arse wiping advice sought, and you're calling this thread a bit random!!

??? :p

I found myself in a buffet breakfast queue with Simon Weston in a Leeds hotel about 18 months ago. He was a true gent, no pretensions although it must have been bloody obvious I recognised him.

Simon Weston may not look like a supermodel now, but he is a super guy doing super work. In my opinion, we have to recognise his efforts more. He works tirelessly for charity.
