Does not say that does it? No acknowledgement that he even wanted him.

The article repeats what is in other publications, and is, quite frankly, very worrying. Something needs to give.

It's not worrying at all. Piquionne is rubbish. I'm frankly delighted if some mug wants to pay over the odds for him. I'd be disappointed if we paid anything for him, let alone an overinflated fee just because he's contracted to West Ham.

And as for Fuller, it doesn't look as though he was overwhelmed with offers, assuming he's signed for Charlton. Perhaps Gus Poyet didn't WANT him, and that's the reason we didn't put a bid in.

Sounds like a poker play by Tony Bloom to me. If other clubs think we're minted then they will raise the stakes. If they hear Gus complaining that he doesn't have sufficient funds, they may, just, be more realistic in their expectations. But then, I could be completely wrong.
Wish that was true but with most strikers already at new clubs it's obvious we can't compete, annoying that clubs smaller than us this season attract good strikers we would love, guess the stadium needs to be paid for so it's something we'll have to get used to.

Shame we didn't offload 4/5 players that are dog shite aswell:(

It does seem a little like we're trying to shrink the squad to a size that will allow us to be able to afford the weekly pay of a killer frontman. Rid ourselves of Hoskins and Harley from the wagebill and i suppose we fill in any gaps during the season with development squadies and certain players the top tier want to give more first-team experience to by loaning out for a bargain, whilst having that absolute stormer up front. Just hope it all works out and we get that character in who wants to aboard the Gusbus.

If we don`t sign a couple of goal scoring forwards then the improvements in defence were a waste of Tonys money,we would have stayed in this division this year with last seasons defence and midfied all we needed was a couple of quality forwards. We all know Gus is building the team again from the back but if he does not finish the job and get the right forwards in place, the new signings in defence and midfield will have been a waste of time and money.

I don't disagree with your comments about the players you mention. However, Gus' comments implied ALL decent players are too dear for us.

My only worry is come deadline day, we will panic and sign a player just for the sake of it and pay to much just to make sure we get him

Can't see that happening. TB has let Gus sign a few duffers (Harley, etc) in the past. I would like to think he won't sanction buying another striker unless they are proven and at the right price, hence no joy so far. Oh well, we'll know within the next 9 days.
