Don't know if this is fixtures, but...

Meanwhile, Albion are poised to extend Ian Westlake's loan spell from Leeds for the rest of the season.

Chairman Dick Knight is in negotiations with United's chief executive Shaun Harvey and he expects to clinch the deal before Westlake's month runs out with the home game against Port Vale a week tomorrow.

Stretching Westlake's loan stint to the maximum 93 days would make him available for the League One play-off final at Wembley on Sunday May 25.

The left-sided former Ipswich midfielder cannot play against his parent club tomorrow under the terms of the existing loan arrangement.

Taken from the ol' argus.

Been reported elsewhere funnily enough before the Argus picked it up, but good news all the same.

Shame we missed out on a striker, but that does sound very positive. I am bemused as to why they wish to loan him out to a potential rival. I could understand the months loan, but for the rest of the season...? Good work if it comes off! I guess he would be ineligible IF we were to make the playoffs and IF we were to meet Leeds.

if we were to get to the play offs and play against leeds, he couldnt play for us, as they prob would impliment a clause that wouldnt allow him to play against them. Like tottenham did with Defoe for portsmouth.

That is for certain!

If he isn't allowed to play against Leeds in a league game, then there is no way he would be allowed to play against them in the play-offs.

Still, this is really good news if DK manages to pull it off by next week

Westlake Loan Update
Posted on: Wed 26 Mar 2008
By Paul Camillin

Leeds on-loan midfielder Ian Westlake's Albion future remains unclear, with the clubs still in discussions over a possible extension to the deal - but any decision isn't essential ahead of tomorrow's transfer deadline and unlikely to come before next week.

Westlake's current loan deal runs until the Port Vale match on 5th April, meaning he cannot sign for any other club ahead of tomorrow's deadline - but he can extend his loan spell with Albion to 93 days, which means he could stay with the Seagulls until the end of the season.

Earlier today, chairman Dick Knight was confident he will be able to extend the deal until the end of the season, and is currently in negotiations with Leeds chief executive Shaun Harvey.

He said, "Ian has done very well for us since coming on loan and obviously we are keen to extend his stay.

"We are not under any pressure to conclude negotiations with Leeds ahead of tomorrow's deadline as the player is already here on loan at Brighton.

"We have up until the Port Vale game to extend Ian's loan spell and I think it's distinctly possible we can achieve that."

The terms of Westlake 's initial loan deal rule him out of Saturday's match at Elland Road - but the midfielder expects to shake off a calf injury, which ruled him out of Monday's game with Nottingham Forest , in time for the visit of Port Vale.

In a conversation I had with him, he made it abundantly clear that he does not want to go back to Leeds, he dislikes it there, and would like to sign for us permanently. I know the money issue would probably rule that out, but would Leeds really want him playing for them right now, as he clearly doesn't want to be there?
