No doubt that was the legendary 'Confederate Keith'
The south surely rose for him when we scored.
Sweet home Alabami !

If it was the confederate flag, it is the state flag of South Carolina but not i beleive Alabama. Haven't seen it so not sure whether it was this, but I should know as lived in SC for a while. Proper dirty south and a good experience but glad didn't settle there t.b.h. it's hardly G.O.S.B.T.S.

If you are old Brighton Fan from the Goldstone days you may remember that flag was often in the South Stand Newtown Road It went to Luxembourg with a coach load of Brighton and 2 Millwall fans to surport Wardy when he was picked by Ron Greenwood for his crap England Side.Poor old Wardy did not get picked to play and England struggled. How ever the picture was taken on the way to Demark for the European Championship.(4-3 to England) Don't look to deep into what the flag stands for apart from the South Stand Goldstone who were a group of fans From Mid Sussex Lancing Worthing etc who stood in the South untill they put seats in and spoilt it, any one with stories of the Southstand days Newtown Road.

Brighton factually.....
Lets not forget, we did convert the confederate flag for our own ends (seagulls instead of stars) at the 83 cup final and I think i even saw one or two in the Play off final against Notts County. So maybe its a sign !!!!

There is some history there with the secession flag but they're not the same.

He was sat I'n front of me at the play off final, I asked what it was about, he just said 'the south will rise again' which seems pretty meaningless to me.

The flag shown above is the battle flag of the Confederacy and was only used in military operations. It shouldn't really carry the stigma of the official Stars and bars flag that the Confederacy used as a political symbol.

It was adopted in 1861 following the Souths unexpected victory at the first Bull Run / Mannassas, as the Souths commander, Beauregaurd, complained that the normal flag was so similar to the Union flag, he had trouble telling what troops were his and what were Yankee troops.

Some of the men that fought under this flag were anti slavery but fighting for their state, just as many Union soldiers were totaly unconcerned about slavery but opposed the break up of the Union.

Just thought I'd say like.

I take it he took his pointy white hood off before the game started?
