Neil Warnock must be the obvious choice, espcially if QPR get Lippi in

I think relegation is about the only thing that could save West Ham from going bust. Some of the deals that Gold and Sullivan were landed with when they bought in to the club were insane - in fact, less of the some and more a case of very very many

A clear out now and two years to get back up using mostly home grown talent and they might have a chance of getting back on an even keel financially

Avram Grant has been sacked as West Ham manager after failing to keep the club in the Barclays Premier League.
The Hammers were relegated to the Championship after losing 3-2 at Wigan and Grant has instantly paid the price after his side squandered a 2-0 first-half lead en route to the Football League.
Grant has been given the boot just eleven months after replacing Gianfranco Zola in the Upton Park hot-seat on a four year deal.

Co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold have decided to take action to give Grant's successor enough time to rebuild for next season with automatic promotion at the top of the new manager's in-tray.

A club statement confirmed: 'The club can confirm that Avram Grant is no longer the manager of West Ham United.
'First-team coach Kevin Keen will take charge of the team for the final home match of the season against Sunderland on Sunday 22 May.'

Sullivan and Gold swiftly moved to end the 56-year-old's brief tenure ahead of next Sunday's final Premier League clash against Sunderland to avoid any ugly confrontations with angry Hammers fans at Upton Park, aggrieved at the club's exit from the top flight.

Martin O'Neill was courted for the position back in January before he opted against the move to east London. QPR manager Neil Warnock, Watford boss Malky Mackay, Cardiff's Dave Jones and Sesame Street's Kermit the Frog are all believed to be on the shortlist of candidates devised by the club.

Gold admitted recently that a host of the club's key players will be sold this summer after Sullivan estimated the cost of relegation will be a hefty £40million.
Footballer of the Year Scott Parker is certain to attract interest from a host of Premier League suitors with Tottenham leading the race to sign him.

My money is on Kermit

Love the West Ham statement - simple and to the point. Do wonder why they didn't do it a few months back though, incompetence throughout

Does anyone else think like me this has been Sullivan/Golds/ Brady's idea since the start of the season. Clear out and start again. Shame for the West Ham fans though

I agree with you, as they did at Birmingham , get relegated and rid of big money earners and then with the Premier parachute payments sign a team to start again and try for promotion.

Do they have clauses in the player contracts to save them loads when they go down then? Otherwise what's the big saving with relegation, it's going to cost them a fortune in revenue.

One imagines that they will sell a number of their current players.

A sobering thought after watching Blackpool,Wigan,West Ham and Birmingham who are all in the relegation zone yet play a far superior game than us we will do well to survive in the Championship.

Not a surprise now, is it ? Golds/Sullivan inherited Grant and dithered when the first signs of collapse came. The O'Neill fiasco rather trumped their next move after their crass behind the scenes approach was exposed.

Apart from a blip in his career in which he took Chelsea to the Champions League Final, Grant has forever been associated with relegation and despair. His normal demeanour is that of a Vampire who is overdrawn at the blood bank. The only promotion he has known is that of himself, who has been repeatedly promoted beyond his abilities.

As for the owners, they will clear the decks of overpaid players, cut the contracts of those they can, bring on some of the youth and reserve talent and that will probably still be enough to get them back up 1st or 2nd attempt. The WHU fans will still turn up en masse paying the same entry fee plus the parachute payments mean that Golds/Sullivan and the Bimbo will be laughing all the way to the bank.

Sure, they'll have to, but I don't see how going down can be beneficial to them. Parachute payments are a lot less than the basic payment for being in the premiership. They still could have sold players even if they'd stayed up - staying up the following season would be even harder, but getting back up won't be easy either. So I doubt it was Sullivan/Golds/ Brady's intention to go down as a money saving method.

poyet may be favoured by sullivan and gold but there is no chance he will go for their hands-on approach to football management which extends to deciding who to sign (and sell) and influencing the team line-up.
