was Carlos Tevez fielded ineligibility against us

Why Seagulls could cash in on Tevez

Albion must wait to find out if they cash in on their meeting with Carlos Tevez.

The Football Association want to study the outcome of an inquiry into player eligibility before deciding whether West Ham face action for fielding the Argentinian against the Seagulls in the FA Cup.

Premier League officials are looking at whether the move to bring Tevez and Argentina team-mate Javier Mascherano to Upton Park breaches rules as clubs are not allowed to field players owned by a third party.

FA Cup rules state players have to comply with the eligibility terms of their own league.

Bury were kicked out of the FA Cup this season for fielding an ineligible player but with West Ham already knocked out of this season's competition, punishing the Premiership club if found guilty could prove problematic.

Compensation to Albion has been suggested while matching Bury's punishment could lead to calls for West Ham to be kicked out of next season's competition.

The Seagulls have confirmed they are monitoring developments while a Bury spokesman said: "We are watching the situation with interest."

So what would BHA fans like to see happen ?...finnancial compensation seems to be most likely but why would the FA sanction such a transfer in the first place....it wasn't exactly a secret that the Argies were owned by the Iranian businessman.

Another day in the circus that is west ham

Is this third party rule a new thing? We had a couple of players owned by a third party agency in the Ridsdale era and no one batted an eyelid.

rules are rules I'm afraid Jevs. I'm hoping we get a nice bonus payday to be honest

Couldn't agree more m8. The only question that has to be asked is why the FA didn't put a stop to the "transfer" in the first place.....it wasn't exactly a secret that the players were owned by another party.

Agreed, although Significant news is usually posted here moments after breaking and having multiple threads dealing with the same news isn't be tolerated on most forums (Digital Spy for example), it's just that NSC has a, erm, unique way with dealing with things.

Agree totally, that it is the FA that have f***ed up, rather than West Ham. If you get thrown out of next season's cup that would be wrong imo. No doubt that's what Bury will be clamouring for though.

Funny thing is, in that game, Tevez really was the difference between the sides. and without him providing the spark, we may have gritted out a draw, and made some cash from a replay.

I think at the least you will have to give us the 3rd round winners prize money [which I think is only £40k] and probably a bit more too. £80-100k would be a massive bonus for the Albion, and would be less bother for you than losing out on next year.
