They have to be better than the LibDems though - all they did was try to close down the Aquarena.

Not so - they needed to close it for a short time in order to build a new one on the same site. What are the Tories going to do about it? Relocate it to Shaftesbury Avenue - miles away from most of the people who want to use it

No they will just demolish it and back the new PRIVATELY owned David Lloyd Centre in Durrington.
Where no-one who isnt earning enough to afford the £600 per year fees can use it.

Bit of a two horse race in Worthing (Tories and the Lib Dems) and what with the almighty fudge up the Lib Dems made with this years council tax and the investigations going on at the town hall into harresment and bullying amongst senior figures there was only going to be one out come.

:nono:

The Lib Dems were screwed by National Government over the Council Tax increase. If the Tories had been in charge we probably would have had a similar outcome. Can't help thinking the Herald were desparate to get them out too, with the smear campaign that has been going on all year

Expect to see Sheryl Grady back in post some time in the next couple of months. It'll be interesting to see how she heals the rift that developed between her and the rest of the staff

Quite agree about the council tax....it just seems they were quite happy to through money away (the consultation over the council tax with those nice glossy leaflets....and the same for the refuse collection which changed twice during their term)

Although I suspect all parties are the same when it comes to spending money.

Yes it'll be interesting to see what happens with Sheryl gate and what stance the local rag take. I thought that local rags were supposed to report (and support) the local community. But the old Herald has a habbit of falling out with people (hence the very small coverage Worthing FC get)

Being an Athlete that uses the Track at Worthing 2-3 times a week, I happen to know what the current plans are.

They plan to move the astro turf along to the athleteics throwing field. Build the swimming pool on the current site and expand the sports centre over the current location of the astro turf with the track remaining in its current location.

The throwing circle will be moved back inside the running track.

Then and only then will the Aquarena be knocked down for flats to be built. :)

Oh goodie, more flats! Just what we need. They will add to the ones proposed for Teville Gate, The Rivoli Pub, Warners and the ones being built at Warnes Hotel. Soon Worthing will be just one big apartment complex! Better watch out for my Victorian House - it'll be gone if I turn my back

that's the problem with Worthing council, whichever party runs it. They had plans for a Multiplen cinema at Teville Gate, but they decided that it wouldn't be in keeping with Worthing's image as God's waiting room and went for flats. I would guess that a single interest party 'Worthing Youth' or something would do well in the town, as there is now a huge number of younger voters for whom the council (irrespective of party) do not represent.

Worthing desperatley needs facilities for the younger generation.

The amount of baseball capped/ hoody wearing little shits hanging about the streets is getting out of hand.

Without leisure facilites there is only one thing left for them - crime.

We need the council to strat providing better facilites and a CINEMA should be first priority.

Totally agree - I'm going to the cinema tonight, and we've got to go to the Connaught theatre. I'd rather go to Crawley (superb facilities), but it makes the babysitting complicated.

Shall we start a political party for the under 40s *

* I'd better not make it any lower or I'll not young enough to be represented !

Or at very least a party that listens or asks what its electorate want.

In a small defence of the out going council they did try and have some 'youth' sessions (with fizzy pop and pizza....how patronising) and bizarley no one turned up.

Another reason for the lack of cinema on the Teville gate site is the Cineworld at Chi. Apparently Worthing couldn't compete with this and the multiscreens of Brighton. Which of course is rubbish. Why would I go to Chi if there was a decent complex on my doorstep.:nono:

I used to go to Crawley, but now go to Chichester.

The point is we shouldnt have to, Worthing is a large town and deserves decent facilites.

I have noticed a massive shift in the age of population in recent years.

Where my Mum lives the road was almost all over 80's, when I used to live there.

Now - I would say the majority of the street are under 30.

Surely the council must be recognising that Worthing is becoming a younger place and that it warrants the leisure facilites for a younger generation, not the wheelchair and walking frame massive!

I live close to Teville Gate and can't wait for it to be redeveloped. When the cinema plan looked a goer a couple of years ago I had some NIMBY leafleting people to oppose it. What the f*** for? So we can keep the yobbo race track come drug den in its place? The leaflet said we should turn into housing for the kind of people we want to see. Yeah right - its location will mean that it will only be popular among housing associations wanting to provide social housing and not the middle class families she was talking about.

I would much rather have had a cinema :censored:

The trouble is that it's the older people that tend to vote so the Councillors only need to panda to their needs in order to get re-elected
