I know! Let's have Christmas twice a year! No more waiting 12 months, we can have a 'Summer Christmas' on June 25th! Twice the fun!

I believe it's the t'other way round.

Wenger proposed it a couple of years ago.
Waited for the hubbub to die down.
Shuffled it around some sympathetic (small) FA's all of whom jumped at the chance to be FIFA's mouthpiece.

In that case, one would hope there is merit in the idea somewhere and that it’s being badly presented or talked down by established interest.

There's no merit only money and puppets.

PLUS ONE VOTE FROM ME!

My retail colleagues will be very excited about the opportunity to offer our customer more exciting festive products. I look forward to the natural conclusion, which is a seasonal event / holiday every week. So we can just roll cash from you delightful people into our company coffers!

I know I'm two days early, but may I be the first to wish you all a very Happy Easter 2?

i dont really believe he thinks its a good idea either, paid to push it by FIFA so they can get more gravy.

From the BBC article;
According to Wenger, a World Cup every two years would generate more money that could be invested globally. "We want to provide an incentive to invest in youth programmes," he said. "We know the quality of work at youth level has a deep correlation with senior level."

A note on FIFA revenue in a WC year;
In 2018, FIFA generated more than $4.6 billion in revenue.

It strikes me that they'd be better off using some of that money to invest in youth programmes where the money is actually used for those things. Rather than into the pockets of local association bigwigs. It's a bit like many governments around the world... "we don't have enough money to look after you, so we'll increase taxes, rather than being more efficient and stopping other officials from stealing much of it".

Do we know how much of that $4.6bn revenue was paid in bungs?

I would be in favour of it if one of them was a world 'plate' competition held the year before the main event, where lower nations play in it for the right to qualify for the world cup held every four years.

Say top 24 countries qualify automatically for the WC, and then the rest play qualifiers for the plate competition, final 8 qualify for the main tournament.

Would stop pointless qualifiers against San Marino, Andorra etc..and would be more competitive games for smaller nations

He's not lost the plot. Just been paid off.

This is quite strong odds on to happen IMO

Anybody else think the old bloke has gone stark staring doo-llally with his idea of a World Cup every two years? Or perhaps some people think we don't have enough international breaks already - please put your heads above the parapet if you do!

Better for the players, my a***!

Yes, I agree with you. Simple question - what happens to the Euros?

(The standard Wenger reply would be 'I did not see them').

Reckon this one will get through eventually.

Must be due to financially benefit from it but the votes I can see giving this the thumbs up.

No doubt will expand the WC too so we will have the same as the Euros with most group games having very little jeopordy.

I quite like the idea of a month break with 7 international games to qualify but the rest of it is cock. Just about the money.

Why stop at twice a year?

And watch the ESL/Break away leagues bounce back

Whilst I don't agree with changing the world cup from every 4 years, if you read what his ideas are as part of his proposal he actually makes some very sensible suggestions of changes to the football calendar.

I don't particularly like international football so would want less rather than more international football. But I can't stand the breaks throughout the season for international matches and I fully support his idea of having less separate international breaks throughout the season and condensing the international periods into two throughout the year.

Should be cutting down international football, not increasing it

His proposals won't increase international football - he'd scrap a lot of friendlies and Nations League etc. His plan just changes the calendar to a more sensible structure.

As I said before, whilst I don't necessarily agree with changing the world cup to every 2 years due to a loss of prestige etc, his proposal does put forward some very sensible ideas that are worth considering rather than just throwing the whole thing out because Europe doesn't want the world cup to be held every 2 years.

There's the knock on effect to other sports to consider as well.

Wimbledon would be fighting every year for TV viewers, competing against either the Euros or the WC. Ditto the Olympics when they roll around. Cricket too. Rugby.

I'm gonna stick my neck out here and say the bottom of FIFA's 'things we don't give a f**k about' list looks something like:-

'...

86 - Human Rights.
87 - Football fans.
88 - Other sports.

That concludes the list'.
