Wembley - Is it a Northern thing?

Coming out of the game last night I accept it took a while, but you kind of expect that with 90,000 people all trying to get out at the same time. But, all I could hear were on the slow walk to Wembley Park tube was northern accents moaning about how bad it all was, how nothing has changed and one particularly baffling comment about how Cardiff was so much better.

What do these people expect? Until some sort of Star Trek style travel is invented don't we just have to accept that crowds mean congestion.

I have being all serious at this time of the morning on a Saturday, but I thought Wembley was great and I am pissed off that all some people can do is find feckin fault!

I hate Fat Frank!

the infrastructure is shite though

took us 2 hours to get on a train back from there and that was when the stadium was only at half capacity and we left early

I've not been to the new Wembley, but it's surely hard to challenge the assessment of the Millennium Stadium as being pretty much the best located stadium anywhere in the world.

Ignoring the fact that it is in Cardiff, obviously.

Once you get there. But getting in or getting out of Cardiff is a nightmare.

One thing that could be better at Wembley is the signposting cos me and a lot of people missed the bit to go down to Wembley Park tube because you couldn't see where it was. But, we just went to the next lot and as long as everyone is patient you get out.

the ticketing situation is a massive problem also. Look at the play off finals, shit loads of empty seats, loads of fans not getting tickets. And last night the wembley club seats seemed to be 70% full in the first half and 10% full in the second half, obviously all went to chinawhites or something

I would say Wembley is definitely a southern thing being based in London.

Yeah, but that's not the point. It still took me 2 hours and 10 minutes to get from Wembley to Woolwich, but I ain't moaning about it.

Maybe the northern monkeys moaned more cos they had further to go, but no one made them come down. If you make any long journey it is inevitable it will take time to make that journey, but you don't have to moan about it.

2 hours 45mins from my seat at Wembley to my front door on the Worthing Coast.. personally i think that's reasonable. There were a huge amount of whinging Northerners comparatively, but it didn't spoil the experience for me. Had a great time thanks very much!

far to many moaning northeners last night got to agree. 90,000 people with the vast majority going to 1 underground station is going to cause problems

How is it then, that the Americans can build stadiums (well three in particular I remember going to) when there are 90,000 and you can exit the stadium in about 10 minutes? (Jets Stadium in NJ for one)

In the case of the Jersey Meadowlands it's easy: Tens of acres of parking, locations adjacent to motorways, and 90% of patrons coming by private vehicle.

An environmental nightmare. And NJ's a best-case scenario -- try Rte 1 in Foxboro after a New England Patriots game....

Problem is England Home. Been the same at Old Trafford every time I've been. You tend to get a large % of first timers so atmosphere is always shit.

England away is where it's at

You have to remember one small fact, The Americans have rather a lot more space than we do. There's no comparison (I used to live down the road from East Rutherford). That whole area is reclaimed swamp.

Having said that I still think Wembley is the wrong place for a national stadium. I would have built it beside the NEC in Birmingham where it would have been central for all and within easy reach of transport.

That's the thing, America does have a lot more space and if they don't have it they tend to knock down stuff to make space. It probably can be done, but i think the point I am making is that even if you do have a bit of an ordeal getting out, does it really matter?
