Do kids still play Wembley I wonder?

I used to like a bit of brinksmanship with it. If you scored too early, you'd spend a load of time sat on your backside behind the goal

Did anyone used to play 'German' Headers & Volleys? I can't even remember what the variation was but it would always be questioned whenever headers and volleys were suggested "What, German headers & volleys"? I'm guessing thats a localism?

Maybe this is the reason our national team is so shit. Our kids spend too much time sat behind the goal having gone through far too early playing Wembley or they're trying to scoring spectacular volleys and diving headers rather than tap-ins

we still played world cup singles/doubles (wembley) 4 years ago in my last year of high school. Was one of the few times i stood out as i could keep the ball away from people for a while with backheels, turns, cruyff turns etc, but never went anywhere with it and eventually ran out of energy...good memories!!

Anyone else use to play cricket with "one hand one bounce" rules ? (with a tennis ball of course). Made it a bit easy to get out, but you got a good turnover with the batsmen, being as all anyone ever wanted to do was bat.

A fantastic development of wall-ball has been formed which is 'Goalie-Squash'

It's essentially wall-ball...but the moment you miss you have to quickly attempt to protect the goal from the next player using anything other than your arms/hands.

If they score past you then you are out. If they miss then THEY must protect their goal.

When someone is knocked out the game begins again in wall-ball stylee.

It's a game of speed, accuracy and tactics. i.e rather than just SAVING a shot against you, you can save it SOFTLY leaving an unoccupied goal(as the player who took the shot has nowhere near enough time to get into the goal). The player after him then comes up, scores and knocks out the player immediately after you.

Simple really.

We used to play British Bulldog at Scouts - 1st Hassocks

Likewise - 1st Sullington and Storrington

I can also confirm that wallball made it north of the Downs.

Did anyone else play a game called hom pom? It was a sort of development on hide and seek, but you had to make it from the hidden place back to a point without the finder catching you, hence when discovered it turned into a straight race. When you got back to the starting point you shouted "hom pom, 1, 2, 3 in" or if the catcher you substitued the "in" for "out".

If you tried to explain the rules of it these days, Social Services would be straight round.

(Except they probably wouldn't.)

I reckon H&S would probably have put an end to British Bulldog in the Scouts.

BritishBulldog. That takes me back, always resulted in cracked heads and blood on the playground. A part of growing up and toughrning up. All too soft nowadays to play these games.

Wallball was my favourite, but anyone remember Pirates in the Gym for a wind down after you did all the exercises?
