Well this must be a tad annoying for Reading

So if Hughton did the same, your reaction would be "Oh, fair enough mate, good luck"?

Eagerly awaiting the presser tomorrow... it could be awkward.

Like most Reading fans are astounded Clarke considered going to Fulham? ;)
The difference being I doubt any Albion fans would be queuing up to stick the boot into Hughton, like you and yours did with Clarke.

Don't get me wrong, someone's gonna get it, odds on that'll be Mr Barber.

But nobody would be laying into CH tactically, and glad to see the back of him.
Unlike our northern friends.

A few bad results and the fans will be all over Clarke now, he really should have gone or not spoken to them at all

I am not too sure about that.

Especially considering Brighton fans mention Coppell to us over 10 years since.

Very few Albion fans blamed him if you read back. You were heavily backed financially in a newish stadium, we were in the shit still at Withdean. He did go on record after he left Reading that it was a really tough decision as he saw Brighton as the bigger club long term. Astute man that Steve Coppell.

Yes they would, people would slate him for being too cautious.
Yeah maybe.
In my haste to portray us as having a little more class than Reading fans, I conveniently forgot we do have our fair share of nimrods.

As does every club.

IcyGull, the few Brighton fans I know are quite bitter over Coppell and the fact we nicked Sidwell too.

You should know by now that anyone that leaves us has a large list of faults, whereas anyone who decides against joining us was shit anyway.
Very few who've left of their own volition get away scot-free, BZ being the only one I can think of off hand.

Iirc rightly, he didn't want to go, but DK said we needed the compensation money, so he took the job. We were skint at the time, desperately trying to keep our head above water.
DK got away with it, as McGhee came in and kept us going, to play in the playoffs.

You'd have thought turning around the Titanic, playing good VFM football, setting undefeated records, playing at a level way beyond EVERYBODY'S expectation, would be enough to look elsewhere for a scapegoat.

Sadly though I think you're right:-

Houghton out
Hewton out.
Hughtown out.

Never liked the bloke anyway.

(oh and in the interests of full disclosure I'd have driven CH anywhere, back in the Summer)

IIRC Reading fans were bitching about West Ham poaching Pardew, then promptly did the same to Brighton with Coppell.
Ah but Pardew slagging Reading players off at the time For leaving for bigger Clubs and showing no loyalty. Then off he went to a bigger Club what a :tosser:

Yeah but he did and I think they have another season of parachutes, yours have ended no?

No.

Reading receive parachute payments this season AND next season.

Fulham will receive a payment up to, and including, season 2017-18.

Absolutely ridiculous isn't it. I see they're changing it in a few years to 2 years - still not good but better than 4...

I suppose the question is, did Clarke have no intention of going to Fulham and just used them to negotiate a better deal with Reading, or are Fulham not offering the terms they need to to draw in the type of manager they're after?

Fulham turned down by two good coaches after entering negotiations so something is wrong. Not a good time to be a fan of the cottagers
