I'm afraid I just plain old hate Portsmouth. And their gobby fans banging on about how massive they are.

I get that, but there are some fantastically well supported well run clubs in the non-league game making it far from 'Tin pot non league'. I might be being a little over sensitive with what you're trying to say to the Pompey fans, however I doubt we'd want to come across as arrogant toward the non-league scene just to taunt PFC.

You are being over-sensitive.

When people taunt Manchester United fans, with "Channel 5, Thursday Night", they are not denigrating the Europa League itself, they are pointing out the amusing novelty of Utd being reduced to playing in it.

The fact that the thought of Portsmouth in the Conference South is FUNNY and will annoy then to hear it, does not mean for one second that anyone has an issue with football at that level.,

How dare you say I'm being over sensitive.....I'M NOT OVER SENSITIVE!!!!!!!!

I doubt they'd get elected straight into the Conference South though, Aldershot for example started life again in the Isthmian League Division Three! If they are lucky, perhaps they'll get the Wessex League Premier with some tasty derby games v Fareham Town, Moneyfields, Hayling Island United or Winchester City!

The rules have changed since Aldershot and AFC Wimbledon reformed. Now a committee decides where the new club should enter the pyramid. AFC Portsmouth (at Fratton Park) would be Conference South.

I thought that would depend on whether a promoted club from a lower division meets ground criteria (there is usually one that doesn't, or has been last 5 or 6 years given Welling have been relegated about 4 times but never actually gone down). Otherwise you would be denying the champions of a league below their promotion, which wouldn't happen. Not sure it is a given that they would definitely get Conny South, they might even get Conference Prem if that's how it worked out, or Southern League Prem.

It wouldn't deny anyone anything, because every league between Conference South and whichever league the folded Pompey were in, would have one extra team up, to accomodate them at that level.

so it's not denigrating to the Europa League to say that man u have been 'reduced' to playing in it?

Only in the context of Man Utd's participation. For Stoke or Braga or Birmingham, or 1000 other teams, its something to aspire to, and certainly worth winning. For Utd its clearly a come=down from the norm, so in their particular case, they are 'reduced to playing in it'.

I'm still a bit miffed at the real hatred we're directing towards their fans. I think I understand the issue fully now, but the last thing I'll be doing is taunting fans who are about to lose their club..

Can I just interject here that my loathing of Pompey is nothing to do with their (shameful, cheating) financial problems, although that has lowered them further in my estimation. I've always disliked them, for their horrible ground, delusions of grandeur, and the team of filthy thugs that they used to field in the late 1980s/early 1990s under Alan Ball.

Yes I see, there would be teams needing to go up to take their place. That's cleared that up.

I won't be joining in the revelling in their demise though, t'was the city of my birth after all.
