The weather is meant to get colder? What weather forecast have you been looking at?

What happened to playing football in the snow? Has that been outlawed?

Yes. Yes it has. Ever since players started taking water on board every time the game stops for more than sixty seconds. Wouldn't want that water internally FREEZING now, would we? Clear Healthy & Safety issue.

:D I assumed it was something to do with commercial reasons and manufacturers of white boots were threatening a lawsuit as they would not be clearly visible.

On the news and in the papers, it's supposed to warm up a bit and then turn even colder towards the end of the week.

You can play on snow so long as the lines are visible.

It's not snow that determines whether the pitch is playable or not, it comes down to whether the ground itself is frozen and thus dangerous (which may not be the case if it's just snowed). Snow can actually keep heat in the ground, providing a sort of insulating layer.

Frost, on the other hand, just freezes the soil to buggery.

PS Walsall knew with some certainty that the game today would be in question. The Albion last week didn't, as the weather was different then, therefore I fail to see how Walsall are due credit any more than the Albion are due abuse.

As for the Albion dishing out announcements "as soon as the game was postponed", I think you must have been hallucinating. They didn't even bother to tell the BBC.

Slightly incorrect here. The number given to us by both the FL and the BBC re postponements rang and rang, without answer, when the call was made within minutes of the game being called off. No answer on the general Five Live number either so, eventually, via the main BBC switchboard, we managed to get hold of a Five Live answer machine, and left a message. Staffing issues at the BBC are not something BHAFC can be blamed for. Also, BBC SCR were aware, as they were at the second pitch inspection.

As for today's game, the referee should be applauded for pulling his finger out and getting to Walsall for half nine this morning to check the pitch (regardless of the information coming out via Walsall, who at 5pm last night assured us the match would go ahead). Also, I think the Albion website was first to break the news, followed by NSC...

I am suprised that the league does not make a ruling that in extreme weather conditions like now that the club call in a local FL approved ref at 8.00am as the temperature at 8.00am in most cases is much the same as 4.00pm so he could decide and if it was obviously doubtful call it off then.

Completley agree with this. They could have called it off a couple of hours eirlier. Me and 5 others (and lots of other BHA) had made it to the bar in london Euston before it was announced. They must have known earlier this morning before the majority of fans set off.

Definitely. I was telling everyone last night it would be off - its not rocket science. Yet still everyone got up and going this morning, only to find out later that, lo and behold, it was off. Mate of mine is a Palace fan and, although subject to a pitch inspection, they seemed to be well aware last night their game was 80% off.

Luckily the word got through about 5 minutes before the majority of albion at Euston got on the train.

I would like them to be able to call a game the day before if its blatantly going to be off anyway, and away fans have a relatively long way to travel (admittedly not one of our furthest today, but still far). Or at the very least, be able to do a pitch inspection very early to confirm what they obviously already knew.

I know theres rules and you always want to play if you can etc, but it was so obvious that today was not gonna go ahead, so why it had to wait till we were halfway up there is beyond me.

There are a couple of very bad transvestites that drink in that bar.

When I say "bad", I mean they are in their 50s and really really need some feminine help in not looking like a cross between Gordon Brown and Danny Le Rue.

Blatant lie as they surely never encouraged their manager to come along as he was sacked today :jester:

I agree with WW. I'm pleased that we had only been on the coach for 3 minutes rather than 3 hours before we knew it was off. Gave us enough time to get home and decide what other game to go to. Great day in the end.

RM Taylor phoned earlier to say there was a posse of 10 Albion fans in with the Preston supporters at Molineux.
