Well done Walsall

Serious post - good work by Walsall. Firstly, they have kept us up to date this week about the state of the pitch. Secondly, they got the message out nice and early that the game was off (no hesitation) before many Albion fans had got very far.

I hope the Albion learn from this for next weeks game, which will surely be in doubt given that the forecast is for temperatures to fall further!!!

You just can't resist it, can you?

Another pathetic misguided pop at the Albion. It's the REFEREE who chooses for the match to be called off, not the football club. And soon as the game was postponed, the club announced it.

And so much for Walsall being confident of the game going ahead, thanks for that WFC - encourage everyone to come along despite the weather.

They did marginally better in terms of PR than the Albion, but that's not difficult.

It was so obvious the pitch would freeze. My irritation at them for not calling it orf yesterday is tempered by sympathy for the naive amount of money and effort they spent trying to f*** with science.

As for the Albion dishing out announcements "as soon as the game was postponed", I think you must have been hallucinating. They didn't even bother to tell the BBC.

PS I apologise for waving a cider can at you last night oh bearded wonder, I am a pikey.

There's me thinking it was you who couldn't resist having a "pathetic pop" at me, simply because i dared to praise another club....

There seems to this odd idea that just because the air temperature goes from -3 to +3 the night/day before a match, then the ground miraculously thaws out like THAT. Just been half-listening to a groundsman-bloke on Betfair radio saying that his racecourse has never really thawed out properly since Boxing Day. Suspect the same is true of most affected football pitches.

I also heard that after a milder spell, starting Sunday, temperatures are set to plummet towards the end of the week ( -10 in places ! ) - 5 day forecasts are still showing above freezing up til Wednesday.
Can anyone else confirm this forecast ?
Certainly creates a worry about the Leeds game....lets hope our imminent opponents are also being called off ( Leeds/Luton etc )

On second thoughts Albion, don't bother updating us on the state of the pitch this week/Saturday morning, you'll only have some f***ing pricks have the audacity to say 'well done' if you do.

McLard is having excess body fat removed on Monday so that it can be smeared liberally over the turf at Withdean in a desperate attempt to keep next Saturdays game going ahead.

I am suprised that the league does not make a ruling that in extreme weather conditions like now that the club call in a local FL approved ref at 8.00am as the temperature at 8.00am in most cases is much the same as 4.00pm so he could decide and if it was obviously doubtful call it off then.

Didn't this used to happen in the old days ? I'm pretty sure they had a local ref called in when an inspection was needed at the Goldstone.

Yes it did as there was a couple that lived either in or very near to Brighton.
So why could that not be done now. At most home games the 4th official is local to the home team. So he could do it and report to the ref on his decision. If it was obiously bad call it off if not then there is no choice but to wait for an official inspection later in the day but at least the early one may save a team or a number of supporters travelling eg Brighton vs Orient or Millwall who wouldnt travel until the day of the game.

The Astral Planes, man...
The club should get an inflatable cover put over the pitch then invite all the NSC hotheads to stand under it to have a verbal binfest, that would thaw the ground out. On second thoughts - we don't want to cook all the worms!
