One in how the mainstream parties will respond to nab back a selection of voters,

Well there is a very simple and straight forward answer to win back this UKIP voter - for all three main parties to enshrine in law an in/out vote on the EU within the next 5 years. A simple, non-party political law.

Clegg is a dead man walking but will never save his skin by doing so, Cameron will always insist on catches and Milliband is too silent to even speak up. So, this UKIP voter may well remain a UKIP voter until the three stooges actually get off their backsides and do something.

The link is obvious.
My family includes a large percentage of 12 tribes of Israel rastafarians, who would question your use of the name, and ask if you were trying to be funny.

Indeed Yes.

A clear message has been sent, compounded by the complete failure of the Liberals and their full on Pro-Europe stance.

Will Labour and Conservatives listen? I will not hold my breath.

The Euro Sceptics have made significant gains all over Europe not just here.

Me thinks it is finally time for the so called "elite" to listen.

I await the inevitable EURO BINGO with nibble and daveinbognor comments saying Racists,Nazis, homophobes and misogynists are taking over Europe.

Don't forget to include "facilitators"..........that word seems to be the in word.....oh and xenophobes, :lolol::facepalm:

And therein lies the divide. I understand the hunger for those who want out of the EU to want a referendum, although I'm not convinced it would deliver an out vote, but am totally opposed to referendums on issues this big for the simple reason that I trust our politicians more than I trust the common sense of the wider public (as with capital punishment), and that's saying something.

I don't think it's come as a surprise to anyone that UKIP did fairly well. Farage is the wrong person at the right time. All parties now have their work ahead of them. Especially UKIP. They have gained well in a short time. We all know I think they are a joke but here they are, so to speak. Let's see what they do in the year before the real deal. They are going to have to get some concrete policies in place and convince people they have longevity. On previous form I suspect this won't anywhere near happen.

I also don't know how the Conservatives and Labour are going to spin their way out of this and get their act together. Probably just try to shrug it off and carry on regardless. That won't work either.

It'll be an interesting year and I think it will be an ugly one in politics.

As an aside (and to help you fill your bingo cards) If you're right and they are the answer and consist of a harmless group of patriots wanting to better the UK who can deliver solid policies and follow through with them, then happy days, an unexpected treat.
If I'm right and they are a rag tag bunch of incompetent, racist bigots the consequences could be dire.

Your use of your username is rather silly...it is also rather offensive to rastafarians, as you are disrespecting Selassies family name.... but of course, you know that, surely?....

and again, you forgot to tell me if you came up with the 'daveinbognor joke' yourself again...

So what should we expect from our UKIP MEPs now ?
Is there an agenda beyond giving Johnny Foreigner/the EU commission a bloody nose ?
What can realistically be achieved ?

Clearly two thirds of Britain, thinks it doesn't matter, which totally baffles me. Do we need to roll out red button elections ?

Is there a parallel between the success of UKIP and the far right in France, or are the French essentially rejecting, the away with the fairies brand of Socialism, of their own government ?

To be honest I don't know how much they can achieve within the EU apparatus, as to operate within the machinery they need to form cross national party groupings and this means pacts with other euro sceptics which on the face of it is challenging given the unpalatable nature of some other European parties.

That said I wouldn't care if they took a leaf out of Sinn Fein's book when they never turned up at the Houses of Parliament, no one hectored them for claiming their expenses and not turning up........why should this be different?

The real damage won't be in Brussels though it will be the domestic politics of countries like France. The solution to the euro crisis is for further integration and this will be much more unlikely now.........that could hamstring the euro itself and if we get another event lead crisis (say linked to Ukraine) it could be the end.

Voter turn out has a long time been low, don't know why you are baffled.

Thankfully UKIP is not comparable to right wing European parties, however the rise of FN should not be a surprise, they have always had a support base. There is a perfect storm in France with discontent with the political elite and the economy, and the message from le Pen is compelling for many French voters........it is essentially Vive la France.
