It's a great shame what has happened to Derby this season, because it highlights perfectly all the problems of the growing chasm between the Prem regulars and the rest.

They did unbelievably well to go up last season, but this was always going to happen. Just as it happened to Watford the year before, though less spectacularly.

So is it worth it? If you are a fan/manager/chairman (less so for players, as they get the loot) would you want to sneak up to get a season of results like they've had, albeit against all the top teams at the best grounds, but to not even be competing on 7pts after 20-odd games, see morale shot to pieces, lose an excellent manager along the way, and maybe come back down in worse shape than you went up in?

Although two of their last three defeats have been to 90th minute or injury time goals, which suggests that the new manager is starting to sort things out, albeit probably too late to keep them up this season.
