Benitez and Allardyce gone by tommorow?

I thought Southgate was going to be the next for the chop but they have picked up form. Benitez will be under pressure as any title challenge has all but slipped away and despite his whining he was backed well financially!

It's a great shame what has happened to Derby this season, because it highlights perfectly all the problems of the growing chasm between the Prem regulars and the rest.

They did unbelievably well to go up last season, but this was always going to happen. Just as it happened to Watford the year before, though less spectacularly.

So is it worth it? If you are a fan/manager/chairman (less so for players, as they get the loot) would you want to sneak up to get a season of results like they've had, albeit against all the top teams at the best grounds, but to not even be competing on 7pts after 20-odd games, see morale shot to pieces, lose an excellent manager along the way, and maybe come back down in worse shape than you went up in?

Watford seem to be doing ok on it now and there is the parachute payment to consider.

I can see your point but I must admit I'd like the prospect of 19 times in a season having a day like we did at Spurs in the FA Cup a few years back.

On the downside it would be 19 times the amount of moaning from people who couldnt get tickets!!!!

The parachute payments make life a lot easier when they go back into the championship which IMO has made the gulf between L1 and the Championship even greater. Would I want to watch my team get walked over every week in the premiership as opposed to being a competitive championship side.......no but there is always that hope that you might pull of a 'Reading or Fulham' which keeps them all chasing the dream!

Postscript to the above...

Wigan fans at last night's game, in response to Liverpool's tiresome European Cup song:

"We won it two times
We won it two times
The Auto Windscreens
We won it two times"

arent derby the worst performing premiership side ever?

I think Sunderland's 19 points is the lowest ever.

Derby, currently on 7, must be thinking 19 looks a long, long way off.

I think that Derby should spend their money during January on players to bring them back up next season and use the parchute payments to do it. No point in wasting money trying to stay up this season.
