I would imagine most sane and tolerant folk appreciates that any civilised society needs immigration to flourish, of course the UK should offer the welcoming hand to those that genuinely seek safety and shelter from tyranny. Illegally entering the UK however should never be rewarded or indeed encouraged , to endorse this sort of behaviour is also endorsing people smuggling, modern day slavery and human misery. Shame on all of you that endorse this illegal activity, shame on you.

They have no shame ! The stupid woman representing the care4calais mob is a prime example of actively encouraging illegal crossings of the channel ,Why South east today give her air time is unbelievable but soooooo predictable

People that facilitate and encourage illegal immigration have blood on their hands.

A Great British Welcome!

A Great British Welcome is a series of stories profiling people across the UK who are supporting refugees.

Across the United Kingdom, people are opening their hearts and lives to refugees and saying ‘welcome’ in a range of innovative ways.

Great stuff! That's what being British is all about!

I was watching the Windermere Children a few nights ago. Oscar Friedman and his team do such a wonderful job with the child survivors of the holocaust and most residents of the sleepy village in the Lake District welcomed them with curious but open arms. Offering to play them at football and inviting them for dinners.
However some, few but some residents viewed them with fear and suspicion. "We don't need any more bloody Jews coming over here" "Jewish or not, they're all Germans to me". They were Polish.

Its an uplifting story but at times upsetting. It also mirrored some of the attitudes we see on here from posters like Das Reich and Baker Lite. Fear, misunderstanding and unfortunately, dislike were all just as present in Windermere 1945 as they are here in 2021. I dread to think what would have happened if we'd have had a generation of Ppf's and Baker Lites back then, we'd have been toast. Which is upsetting. But, as in Windermere there is also great support, love and compassion for present day refugees. And that is uplifting.

For those that don't know the story...

How fabulous - It goes a long way to showing that there's still a huge amount of decency left, among the British people. Long may it continue.

Exactly. It’s easy to forget that the haters are in the minority. Even if it doesn’t seem like that in the pit sometimes.
Many good people doing many good things for their fellow humans. Terrific work.

Lest we forget Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi germany and those who helped them were breaking the law.
God bless those who stood up to those laws and smuggled them out.

are you not classed as an immigrant where you are? So as an immigrant in another country you have an issue with immigrants, is it just a superiority thing?

self funded immigrant going through official channels vs refugees/asylum seekers housed , fed , clothed and schooled by the state .....i don't have a problem with bona fide refugees but when you hear that people started leaving Afghanistan and Syria 15 years ago because they were told the European borders were "open" ...?? well that is a tad irksome.

irksome even if you're thousands of miles away?

This is the healthy way to do it, most would agree. If we start in the classroom people won’t grow up afraid and confused by refugees in their communities. As we know, that fear leads to hatred and racism.
Giving young students the chance to talk with refugees and hear their story first hand will foster empathy and tolerance.
More great work and to be encouraged, I think most will agree.

The Brits join the world in showing compassion for desperate refugees forced to undertake horrendous and perilous journeys.

Dover’s seafarers show compassion for refugees crossing from Calais.

Germany’s refugees boost economy by filling skills gaps and worker shortages

Efrem Gidey defies expectations, to win a European Cross Country Championship medal for Ireland

These and other global stories of great things being done by and for our international refugees. Great work being done.

well ...yes , i'm still English and my English family and friends still have to see their taxes forked out to pay for aid, help....etc etc etc for people who were dentists , camera men , architects and engineers in their own countries but fancied a change of scenery , this started in 2014/15 .......there is a process in immigration and it costs a lot of money , i am not now nor ever have been a burden on the current society in which i reside .....i really hope this clears up any misgivings/ confusion you may have regarding the matter.
