Well done Brexiteers:)

Refugees living in northern France say Brexit has made it easier for them to reach the UK in small boats, as it emerged that record numbers of people crossed the Channel in one day.

https://www.theguardian.com/politic...small-boat-crossings-to-reach-uk-refugees-say

In October 2020 Boris Johnson said Brexit would enable Britain to take back “full control of our money, our borders and our laws

Nevertheless, while the overall number of people fleeing conflict and claiming asylum in the UK has fallen to 31,115 in the last 12 months, the number crossing from France to the UK in small boats has risen sharply since the UK parted company from the EU.

Pastafarian will be along any moment to remind you taking back control is about keeping out those pesky foreigners who plugged essential labour shortages and contributed billions to th UK economy. Makes perfect sense if you live on planet Brexit.....

Brexit just keeps on giving.

On the brighter note, lots of these people are being housed in Sunderland, seems apt...

Pastafarian would probably tell you the Dublin agreement led to a very small percentage of illegal immigrants being returned while we accepted a far greater number from other EU countries .... still, good to see radicalised morons lapping up piss poor Guardian journalism yet again [emoji106]

You have missed the point. The fact is the Dublin agreement is no longer at our disposal and so the perception amongst those who come across the channel is that they cannot be sent elsewhere. So they are coming over in increased numbers. A direct result of Brexit.
We didn’t invoke it very much at all. That is true. Now we can’t. That is also true.
I’ve never claimed on my house insurance. Doesn’t mean I’m going to bin it off.

That is what the article says you myopic doughnut.

And as The Clamp points out, even though the legislation wasn’t often invoked - it now cannot be.

Yeah, a migrant, who is fine taking numerous dangerous, often life threatening risks, who travels across several safe countries to get to the French coast, then thinks I won't try to get in the Uk because there is a tiny chance I might be returned !

In 2018 (still in the EU) we made over 5500 requests to return migrants.... only 4% were accepted. Meanwhile , we accepted over 60% from other EU countries . Rather amusing to see people trying to score Brexit points over the Dublin agreement when it actually meant we were accepting far more migrants than we were returning.

But the article is posing the question, why when asylum seeking numbers are falling, are channel crossing attempts increasing? Perhaps if you’d have read it before commenting on it, it would have made sense?

Farage: 2016 - 'We must break free of the EU and take back control of our borders' - implying a simple Brexit vote would solve the issue...

Lest we forget.....

The article was written in a way to appeal to the prejudices of a section of the Guardian readership and the gullible lap it up.Awful piece of journalism.

I think you should have read the article before shooting your wad.
I think you should have stuck to posting good news stories about refugees instead of trying to make a cheap Brexit point which spectacularly backfired ...

You’re just playing it down. It’s exactly what I expected.

And you’re missing the point completely. Channel crossings have increased since brexit. This suggests a reason why. It’s really not like anyone has to scrabble around to find Brexit negatives !!

No need for you to get so worked up and childish.

Have you perhaps got a calmer account you could use? :)

I'm surprised the OP hasn't come along and chastised you for off topic trolling, he normally gets very cross about that sort of thing ...

You didn’t read it, or you just didn’t understand it, because what you said before was in the article. I mean, when you talk prejudice and gullible…if the shoe fits.
