Replacing JPVH or Dunk? Not for me.

Yes he's had a couple of good games and was excellent v Ipswich. But he's always had a calamitous error in him that's cost us so much in the past.

Far more than Dunk or JPVH have.

I'm really pleased for him and hopefully he'll continue to stay fit and perform well, but not even 2 games in on his return and we're talking about dropping one of our 2 CBs?
At the moment i agree. Third choice cb, but a highly capable replacement

I don’t see any reason to drop Webster however after his two great performances. He seems a completely new player compared to his past self.

I think we’re fortunate to have three good centre-backs who are all fit at the moment. Our defence is a lot better than what it used to be earlier this season.

With Webster and Dunk back fit, JPVH continuing his good form, and McConville an option, it sort of feels like we're not so desperate after all to sign another centre back. Obviously if we could get someone that really improves us then we should go for it, but no need to waste our cash.

What do you mean completely new player. He was part of our best ever team and kept colwill out the team

People seem to have forgotten how good Webster is.

three at the back?
I'm a little bit allergic to three at the back when you have no left footed CB. It can work but its a real hassle finding the right angles playing out from the back to midfield. Players don't want to have to make sensitive passes between the lines with their wrong foot but that will inevitably sometimes be the case if the opponent press correctly. Too often this leads to build up being more complicated and risky than it should be.

This.

Said a few weeks ago let’s see where Igor or Dunk is in a few weeks and whether one of them is back by then before getting too anxious. I even suggested we use McConville out of our U21 options on one thread discussion back then - then he played at Norwich and I thought he looked very confident and comfortable which, with Dunk also back, has certainly taken the edge off any defender anxiety for me.

I would love us to deepen the squad and recruit for succession planning if the right one came up for the right price but that’s different from saying we should be desperately rushing out to snap buy an expensive PL ready defender in January to play for the rest of the season just because of our injuries especially when the January window doesn’t provide the same opportunities to buy these sorts of players. Much the same could be said of a striker - having an extra 9 in the squad would be very helpful, especially if Ferguson and Enciso go out on loan but we still can manage to adapt and have a healthy goal distribution in the squad without relying on another strikers.

Hinsh may also be an option in a central defensive role to see us through when he’s fit.
