We should have hung on to Revell or Elder

Both scored on Saturday while we did not have a recognised striker to bring in.

Getting rid of Revell in particular was really stupid. Even Elder could have done a job for us on Saturday and would be perfect as a back-up striker.

I do think Revell would have done a better job than Gary Hart. If Adams is looking for a third striker to run around and be a bit of a nuisance than Revell would do this but offer more of a goal threat than Hart.

But, neither Revell of Elder were that good and to get money for them, in particular the fairly large sum we got for Revell, I think it was great business at the time.

What should have happened is the money should have been used to bring in a decent third striker...

I expect some of it and the Hammond money went towards Murray. If so we got much the best deal

How we managed to get £150k for Revell ill never know. We would have been stupid not to snap Southends hands off for that price. I would be inclined to agree with Elder though, but pretty sure he wanted to leave.

The fact that Revell has managed to play all of about TWO GAMES for Southend because of injury since we maced them for £150k in January would suggest this was damn good business.

Don't forget that Wendy was (sort of) in charge at the time, so our present striker situation still reflects past deals/mistakes. I hope MA gets some more quality in soon-as though. I'm sure he's seriously been on the look out..

Just go for the tried and tested method, buy whoever is playing in the Bristol Rovers reserves.

The same Wilkins who was instrumental in signing Nicky Forster...

Yeah, the self-same one. Like virtuall every manager, he made some very good signings; some avarage signings: & some poor signings. I don't know if he had much influence on the Revell & Elder exits, but a shortage of quality back-up is - rightly or wrongly - part of his legacy IMO. Now it's up to MA & the money men to move things on. I'm hoping we can get a loan striker in from the upper leagues, but that's a damn sight easier said than done, ain't it?

I would have to disagree with that as Adams has had the whole summer to get his own back up to the squad. Its not like he came in a week before the season.

shortage of quality back up? Wilkins got rid of Hart and Mayo - Adams bought them back? HArldy a fault of Wilkins if he deemed them not good enough, but they were bought back anyway?

IM not saying Adams hasnt tried to get any decent back up in, but the fact there isnt any, is not Wilkins fault. Adams has made some great signings, but so did Wilkins

Fair comments

I was attempting to think about the Revell & Elder exits & how they might still have a bearing on the club at the mo'. I can't say I was especially sorry to see either of them go at the time - but the thread question has reinforced my feeling that we've been short of good cover up front for a while now. OGH ain't the answer on Saturday's evidence & Dixon doesn't look like he's got what's required either, unfortunately. I'm really suprised Micky hasn't got anybody else in. Perhaps he really is somewhat stuck in his past glories down here (like many of us poor fools!)??

Time to bring on the next Zamora then mate - & soon!!

AS Revell is from Essex and had always stated a deire to play for Southend (bizarre but thrue) and they were sniffing around hime for quite a while before stumping up some cash it was hardly a move that no-one wanted.

They wanted him, he wanted to play for them, we wanted cash to offset the Murray deal. Suited all parties down to the ground.
